GINNY MORGAN'S TUTORIAL FOR SPLITTING DESIGNS
| This is a lesson on using the Husqvarna CD Editor to break down designs
that are too big for the hoop. In this lesson, we will be using the eagle
from Scott Ritter. He has given his permission for you to download the eagle
right here. The zip file contains the eagle in its original size in
four formats, hus, pcs, exp and dst. Click here
to download.
The objective of this lesson is to take a large design and break it down to fit either the Plus Hoop or the regular hoop. Then we will go through the steps required to put them back together to look like the original design. Open the CD Editor; close the owner's Collection. Click on "open file", and choose the file from wherever you have it stored. You should have converted it to a .hus file in its original size. It will open in Editor but won't save until it is the correct size for the hoop. The screen should now show the eagle. We want to break this up into pieces, so that each piece will fit into our hoop size. This may mean that we have to rotate a piece a little to make it fit. That will all be worked out when we get to the point of realigning it when we are ready to stitch it out. I chose to take each wing and the tail off, making each piece and the remaining piece a separate file. You can see pictures of the 4 parts in Jan's Placement Instructions. In the vertical column on the left side of the screen notice the buttons with the numbers on them1/10/100/1000 and -1/-10/-100/-1000. As you click on these buttons, the cursor moves forward ( or back, in the case of the - numbers) Notice the cursor ( a small dark +) at the starting point of the design. Click on some of the number buttons and watch the cursor move forward or backward. You can move directly to the beginning of the design by clicking on the button that has a hand pointing to the left, in the left vertical column; or to the end of the design by clicking on the button with the hand pointing to the right, in the right vertical column. We will start by preparing to take off the left wing.Make sure the cursor is at the beginning of the design: click on the button with the hand pointing to the left. Click on the "10" button 1 time, then click on the "-1" button 1 time. Before we go any further, please take note of lower left corner. It says St:10. I will be refering to this as we go through the process, this will insure that we are in the same place. Now look for the button in the right vertical column that looks like an M. This is the select stitches button. Click on this once. Click on th "1000" button. Watch as the cursor moves forward 1000 stitches and highlights them as it goes. Now click on the "100" button 6 times. Click on the "10" button 5 times. Click on the "1" button 2 times. Lower left corner should now read :St:1662. Now click again on the select stitches button to turn off the selection process. Now we have to move through the design without selecting stitches until we get to the detailing and outlining of the wing.Click on the "1000" button 11 times. No stitches should be highlighted. Lower left corner should read: St: 12662 click on the "100" button3 times. Click on the "10" button 1 time. Click on the "1" button 7 times. St: 12979. Click on select stitches button. Click on "1000" 1 time Click on "100" 6 times Click on "10" 5 times Click on select stitches again to turn it off. St:14629 The entire wing should be highlighted. Now go to the tool bar ( the horizontal row of buttons across the top). Click on the button with the scissors. This is the "cut" button. The next thing you should see is the eagle without that wing. Now click on the "new page " button ( horizontal row, far left button). Now you should see a blank screen. Now click on the "paste" button (7th button from the left across the top) and you should get only the wing. Click on the "save as" button ( 3rd from the left of the horizontal row) Name this file Lwing and save. We have just completed the first step. Congratulations. Near the bottom you should see 2 tabs, one with the original file name on it and one with the Lwing file name on it. Click on the original file name to get back to the eagle. This is like we are starting over. The cursor should automatically be at the beginning of this design. Click on "10" button 2 times. Click on the "-1" button 3 times. Lower left corner = St:18 Click on Select stitches. Click on: "1000" button 3 times "100" button 7 times "10" button 2 times " 1" button 2 times Lower left corner = St: 3740 Click on select stitches to turn it off. These steps should have selected the main part of the right wing. Now we need to move forward until we come to the detail and outline of this wing. Now the wing should fit in the frame and you can go ahead with saving it. Go to "save as" , etc. Now near the bottom, we will see 3 tabs, one with each of the wings and the one with the original file name. Click on this tab. You should see just the remainder of the eagle. Now we are going to work on cutting out the tail. Click on: "1000" button 2 times "10" button 2 times" "1" button 7 times. Lower left corner = St: 2028 Click on 'select stitches to turn on. Click on: "1000" button 1 time "100" button 6 times "10" button 6 times "1" button 5 times Click on select stitches to turn off. Lower left corner = St:8399 This should be the entire tail section. Click on Cut, click on new page, click on paste, click on save as and name this section "tail". Go back and click on the tab on the bottom with the original file name. All that should be left is the head and the body. If you try to save now, it will give you the message too big... The piece must be moved to be within the frame first. Click on "select all" ( remember, the white zig zag stitches looking button) Then click on the "move" button. Then click and drag the last piece until it is in the framework. Then click on the de select all button ( blue zig zag stitches looking button) Click on "save as" and give a new name to this portion. DO NOT use the original file name. If you do , this will overwrite that file and you won't be able to use this as a reference when you are putting your pieces back together,. Now we are ready to put the pieces back together for the stitch out!!!! First completely close the editor. We are completely done with that part. Go into the Customizer, bring up each file, 1 at a time, and print a picture of each separate file. Then use Jan's Placement Instructions for realigning the designs with water soluble stabilizer to do the perfect stitchout.
