February, 2001: 20 additional carvings added.
Welcome to The Woodcarver's Gallery. Here you will find a sampling of the wood sculptures produced by Scott Hunter in the years since 1979. The Gallery is divided into five Preview Rooms where you will find a series of "thumbnail" images. Click on these to view full-sized photographs of each carving. To move to the Preview Rooms, click on the thumbnails below. Use the text links at the bottom of each page to navigate within the Gallery, or to visit other parts of my website. Room 1 Room 2 Room 3 Room 4 About the Artist I have been producing art since 1964, when I was in junior high school. I graduated from Brown University with a degree in studio art and art history, and then went on to get an MA in art history at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Though I have made my living in museums (until illness forced an early "retirement" in 1990), making art has always been an essential part of my life, one of the ways I have justified taking up space on this troubled planet of ours. Naturally, I hope that you enjoy my work, although I realize that it will not appeal to everyone. But an even stronger hope is that you will find these carvings sincere expressions of one man's response to the human experience, and that they are worthy of your time and attention. I would like to thank my good friend Jeff Key, who did the photography for Preview Roms 1 and 2. He is not only a fine photographer and teacher, but is also a sculptor of great and rare talents. The other photographs were taken by me with a Sony Mavica 2.1 megapixel digital camera; please forgive any wayward artifacts. Let me know if they bother you.
