A Brief Guide to the AI Procedure
The following pages are references for those wanting to learn about the
procedure before attempting AI. We have used both Elite Genetics and Martin
Dally for the procedure and recommend them both.
The procedure itself is relatively simple and straightforward and is
described on the AI in small ruminants
page. You will need to have a cradle available, a tank of food grade CO2 gas
and, of course some spray bottles, buckets and a few other pieces of equipment
that will be specifically mentioned by your technician and or Vet doing the
procedure.
Once the animal is prepped it takes only a matter of minutes for the entire
procedure with you assisting and observing along the way. Even in the stall of a
barn, provided proper procedures are used, the chance for infection is slim. We
have not had a single case of post procedure complications.
The photo gallery of the AI procedure will
give you an idea of what to expect.
