Doug
Church began his Elvis career in the United States Air Force in 1983, winning
the talent contests held
annually by the Air Force, competing against hundreds of other contestants,
starting at the base level and proceeding through to regional levels, ultimately
winning out other bases in the European and U.S. Air Force Commands. He
collected 11 first place trophies (not merely for impersonating Elvis,
but many other categories such as "male vocalist", "potpourri musical"
and even "comedy") after only four and a half years of competitions.
After leaving the Air Force, Doug began performing locally in clubs in and around the midwest. In 1990, he competed in the 4th annual Worldwide Elvis Impersonator Contest in Memphis, Tennessee, taking 2nd place in his first time out, competing against Elvis impersonators from all over the world. The following year he returned to Memphis to capture the 1st place crown as the "World's Best" for a year.
In 1993, after a successful audition with Legends in Concert (a musical impersonator review, based in the Imperial Palace hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring such acts as Marilyn Monroe and the Blues Brothers and, of course, the King) he started touring the country and subsequently the world, performing in such exotic locations as Bangkok, Hong Kong, Aruba, the Bahamas, and even Moscow.
Doug
Church still works with Legends in Concert from time to time, but he prefers
to free-lance and do the shows that won him acclaim throughout the midwest.
His voice is so close to Elvis' that if you closed your eyes, the King
would be right there in the room with you.
Doug
performs two 40 minutes sets, with a change of costume in between, but
can easily tailor his performances to meet your specific needs. He is also
available for voice overs and jingles, having a 65-voice repertoire (a
voice list can be made available upon request).
