Vaccine Associated Feline Sarcoma Task Force Update January 9, 2002

The Vaccine-Associated Feline Sarcoma Task Force (VAFSTF) met in March 2001 at the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) headquarters to award grants to research proposals scored by independent reviewers.  This year is marked by continuing financial support for studies investigating the epidemiology, etiology, and treatment of these rare but aggressive tumors.  In addition to the publication of Guidelines: Diagnosis and Management of Suspected Sarcomas and Report: Vaccine-Associated Feline Sarcomas, the findings of several task force-funded projects have been published in peer-reviewed veterinary journals.

 As of December 2001, various veterinary organizations, individuals, and vaccine manufacturers have contributed over $788,000 toward task force research projects.  The task force wishes to thank the following for their generous contributions:
