The trip to SEA
Our original trip was to go to Singapore and Bali but just two weeks before to start, the program has been cancelled as most of the persons required the bigger program to Bali , Bangkok and Singapore.Two days before we leave there was again a small change as the program was to be made in reverse order
Finally we left from Thessaloniki with two
other persons On Athens we were connected with the remain
group , of a more of 9 persons
Tai airwaves havbe been used with one stop first to Bangkok for
transit then we taken the next one to Singapore. Flight from
Athens to Bangkok was abt 10 hrs and nearly 3 hrs to Spore
Below you will find only a abstract from our trip without any
significant details
SINGAPORE
This was my second trip to SNG though it was behaved as my first . My previous time to SNG was on 89 however due to business reasons ( though with a group) was not chance to visit SNG
Out residence was in the York Hotel on the 11 th floor.
Left Singapore early next morning to take the airplane for
Bangkok
The New walkman AIWA JX704 fyi includes the follwing :
1.Band FM and MW ., with theree options : europeanm
standards(88-108Mhz , 9 khz step MW) , japanese standard ( 78-108 mHz and
9 khz step MW) and a merican standard ( 88-108 mHZ , 10 kHz MW ). Digital read
out to 50 kHz for FM ( and very good selectivity)
2.Autoreverse also in recording, separate microphones
included.Relatively bassy earphones.
3.Remote control of the most important functions and belt clip
4. Menu driven control for tape type( nor, chrome), FM mono or stereo,LED
indication for tape and low batery
As usually walkmans are easily overloaded with very strong
nearby FM stations This was not exception . For example 1007 from Indonesia
(though with fair to good signal) weas easily QRMed from a nearby chinese
station
Singapore in general was for us nothing than a American
type city full with big buildings
As for reference , from the items i was mostly interested , seems
the electonics to be relatively high ( also on photomachines ) Prices for
musical records were abt S$19 for CD s (chinese /malay
western) and abt $7 for malay tapes Eating in the hotel
was of normal greek prices .Hotel York's 's restaurant seems to
be very famous for its quality as it was overflooded at noons with
chinese people coming here only to take their lunch
As in result there was a litle only opotinity to make soem good listening . However on the first day i have logged the following stations on FM while on next days i tried to make some radio recordings

Seems that these windows absorb a lot of HF radiation thus only the
strgest sinals could be received

BANGKOK
This was my second trip to Bangkok. First was on 89 ( together with SNG) . The city was relatively diferent this time as many ring roads have been made in between , making traffic much easier (due to tolls in entrance and exit of the ring roads) , though the main roads (such as Sukhumvit) were still with terrible traffic.
1 st date : After arriving in the Bangkok terminal a girl ofered us flower-made necklaces . Then arrived at our new hotel Amari Attrium Date was free but most of the group prefered a traditional Tai masage. This masage however made headaches to Natasa
2 nd date : ( hopefully Natasa recovered) Making a trip over Bangkok .
Visiting the Buddhist temples and the royal buildings At noon a tour
over the riverside houses ,. It was an impressive yet extraordinary
experience seeing very poor people living at so bad conditions
. It was also very impressive seeing huts near to skyscrapers and
very modern buildings
At evening dinner on a riverboat tripped around the river
That date my photo machine had a problem with the return of the
film.
3 rd date: Trip outside Bangkok to wood carvers .
To the 'flooding market' over the river by boat ( not of Bangkok's
however ) then to the called 'Rose Garden' where we atended in
a tai show ( with traditional dances and tai boxing) and ride over
elephants
Return back to the hotel at evening then with another
person we gone to the World Trade Centre for some little
shopping
Leaving Bangkok very early next morning. On the duty free of
the airport's terminal bought a cheap photo machine
Olympus .
From products they are very cheap ( per greek standards) . CDs
could be found at 250 B per twin CD s abt 110 B for tapes and abt 100 B
for VCD . A taxi just to trip of 3 km ( from hotel to the WDC ) costed abt
B60. Cotton T shirts costed abt 200 B . ( 1 USD = 40.1 Baht )
Radio wise Bangkok is full of stations on both bands
(FM and MW ) language of course was very dificult to
understand and find IDs however some of the stations
used westernized names as you will see fromthe list . The list below
is a nearly complete list of the FM/MW freqs with some
station names.
Too many 'FM' radio transmitting towers have been found in the city.
As our tai group-leader told me most of rthese towers are used for
radio communications between companies

BALI
Residence on Bali Hilton in Nusa dua ( two islands) a luxury hotel of abt 500x 500 sqm area . With a new leader who returned with us back, later, to Greece. I had many opportunities to speak with the immigrants in bahasa who were very impressed with it
1 st date : Free time for relax . At night with mediteranean buffet in hotel ( included in the program)
2nd. day ; Trip on a wood carver , a batik maker - producer with a big display of very nice batik images too , on the bird garden on Mengwi and seeing also a traditional 'transversal' house .
3rd day Free morning . On noon visiting on a church . a traditional (transverse) hotel whre we also planted a tree and later to Tanah Lot for the sunset
4 th day : trip over Denpasar Cetik and Ubud . On Denpasar we seen their bazaar ( market) and in Ubud we seen the monkey farm and the inner of the city
5 th day: optional program to Kintamani mountains, to lake Batur near the mountain ( also with a boat ) , to Pura Tirta Empul ( the church with the holy water) , the rice plantations and a plantation of exotic fruits
6 th day : free day , Shopping on Kuta At night the programmed dinner on greek restaurant on Kuta
7 th day( Monday) : free morning and return back . At 1430 we
left the hotel and returned to Grece via Bangkok We were in Bangkok
on 2100 and departed on 2400
IN total i have colected 8 films
Bali from economical point of view was very cheap in nearly all
aspects. tapes have been found to be 10-14 k Rupiahs ( abt 1.5-1.8 USD) ,
CDs abt 65000 R(unreasonably high for indon standards) . Trip with taxi from the
hotel to Kuta's greek restaurant ( abt 11 km) was only 20000 Rupias
Prices on hotel were relatively high ( $2 for a bottle water of 1.5
litre , $20 for dinner ) but eating outside was nearly
the half price. ( R 12000-22000 per dish)
The rupiah however was strongly staggering coming from
8500 to 8700 in only two days ... Other curencies ( baht or S$
were nearly constant)
There were too many satelitte antennas around Kuta. There is alocal TV program in TVRI with genaral news and weather.It is also impressive that most people are fans of the mexican soap operas ( telenovelas) who could very easily open discussion
Radiowise it was a better choice to listen to HF and
VHF bands due to more more spare time.
This was the only point i could erect an antenna outside the
room as the rooms had veranda , in contrast to the other- as above- places
where windows were fixed . The antenna consisted of abt 6 m wire,
used as vertical antenna which just overloaded the radio
SONY radio shown a major problem with its sensitivity due to humidity. After power up it could not receive any signals gbut gradually gained its sensitivity to receoive perfectly signals after abt 15 mins . There was no problem here in Thessaloniki after we returned
