Who is LARRY DEAN JACKSON?



Larry has been a head varsity basketball coach for 25 years and has 424 career wins. He has coached in Missouri, Arizona and Texas. He has coached one State Quaterfinalist team; one Regional Championship team; four District Championship teams; five district runner-up teams; nine play-off teams; six teams which finished third in district.

He has coached teams which have won nineteen tournament championships and seventeen teams that have finished second in tournament play.

He has coach junior high basketball for eight years. And been tournament director for 29 secondary school basketball tournaments. He has been camp director for fourteen summer basketball camps and worked in an additional eleven other summer basketball camps. He has been the director of a summer basketball league, a fall basketball league, hosted four basketball coaching clinics, coached Little Dribblers for seven years and officiated high school basketball for three years.

Other coaching experience includes - Football: assistant varsity coach for four years; junior high coach for six years. Track: head varsity coach four years boys, three years girls, assistant varsity coach for one year and junior high coach for eight years. Cross-Country: head varsity coach for four years boys, three years girls, and junior high for two years. Baseball: head varsity coach for six years. Tennis: head varsity coach for two years and junior high coach for two years. Volleyball: assistant varsity coach for one year. Served for thirteen years as Athletic Director. Served as head of the physical education department K-12 for three years, and 6-12 for seven years.

Larry graduated from Hudson High School in Lufkin, Texas in 1976. Where he was a three year varsity starter in basketball. All-District first team his junior and senior years, and leading the district in scoring his senior year. Larry attended Panola Junior College on a basketball athletic scholarship and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1980.

In high school Larry was the Editor of the school newspaper, and won the Publication Award. Larry was a member of the National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America, U.I.L. Speech contest, Junior-Senior One Act Play, and Student Government. He was also voted Most Athletic his senior year. Larry attended Panola Junior College on a Basketball Athletic Scholarship and Journalism Scholarship. And was the Assistant Editor of the school newspaper.

Besides being the varsity boys basketball coach, Larry also is an assistant track coach and the head varsity cross country coach (Larry's cross country team qualified for the state meet in 2004, the school's first year to field team). While teaching social studies at the high school. In the past he has also taught: Physical Education K-12, U.S. History I & II, World History, Texas History, Geography, Health, Study Skills, U.S. Government, Physical Science, Biology and Woodville Alternative Education Center.

Larry and his wife Joani live in Orange, Texas. Larry and Joani are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Orange Ward. Larry and Joani have nine children: Kristi, Craig, Kyle, Isaac, Jacob, Caleb, Luke, Samson and Makayla.
