Hunting in SNOW

I really love hunting when its late in the season

I've got the woods to myself but that's not the reason

It's SNOW on the ground that gets my heart pumping

And tracks to be followed and deer that need jumping

When the woods are white the odds shift a bit to my favor

And if its still coming down, that's a day that I'll savor

This isn't the day that I'll be sleeping late

I gotta get going... I don't want to wait

Now I can see better, the deer seem to stick out

And tracks in the fresh snow let me know to watch out

Its as if I can smell them when I come on fresh sign

They're HERE!  Get ready, see them first this time

And sometimes I come on deer, and sometimes not

I put in lots of miles, and I give it a shot

There's something about getting real close to deer

I still haven't seen them but I know they are near

I hear my heart beating real loud in my ears

I might soon be spotting my best buck in years

But even if I go out and don't find my buck

I'd rather hunt this way than relying on luck

Or being in front of a loud noisy drive

Seeing frightened deer fly by like bees from a hive

And it IS tougher hunting, relying on stealth

But success is sweeter, and it helps my mental health
