I'm JOHN ROBERT MALLERNEE, also known as "SAIGON", an "undiscovered" amateur singer/songwriter, and resident of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.
The son of a career soldier, I proudly carried on my family's tradition, honorably serving in Indo-China with the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles".
Trained in communications repair, military police patrol, and as a cavalry scout, I was stationed in Germany, Viet Nam, and Korea, also visiting Japan, Thailand, Israel, and Australia.
After military service, I was employed as a peace officer, firefighter, and emergency medical technician.
I'm especially pleased to have served on the committee which erected the Viet Nam Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite everyone to visit it.
A convert in The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints (i.e., the so-called "Mormon" church), I served a rather unorthodox full-time mission as a gunslinger protecting a cattle ranch in Utah.
Of Highlander descent, I am the official bard of Clan Henderson, and struggle to teach myself a wee bit of Gaelic.
A "Technician" class amateur radio operator, I am licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as KB3KWS.
I have composed numerous Country/Western/Folk ballads, both lyrics and melody, which I perform "by ear", accompanying myself on guitar, and authored several stories for children about "RINGO", a genuine border collie dog on an authentic Western cattle ranch.
I'm briefly mentioned in the book, SAINTS AT WAR - KOREA & VIETNAM, and in the book, 101st AIRBORNE DIVISION "SCREAMING EAGLES", for which I'm very grateful.
