World Series Trophy

::World Series-Home::

The World Series features the clubs from the United States and Canada. The World Series is the most crucial and the highest level of baseball contest in North America. The major league further consists of the National League (NL) and the American League (AL). Both leagues consist of three divisions West, Central and East.  The clubs are grouped into these divisions within their respective leagues. The regular season playoffs and the post-season plays start from April or late March to October. During the regular season, the clubs are required to play 162 games. The Division player is adjudged on the basis of the most victories earned by a particular team.  The division winner also earns the privilege to contend in the playoffs. The playoffs also feature the club with the finest record in each league as a wild card team. Both the leagues organize an independent playoff, which features three division winners and the wild-card team.  These teams face each other in sequence of games and the team with the most wins moves on to the next round of the playoffs. The eventual series of the league decides the pennant winner and the pennant winners compete in the major league world champion to win the coveted World Series title.

The major leagues also organize a yearly contest in the middle of the regular season. During this time the clubs for a short term don t compete. The yearly contest is better known as the All-Star Game. It features a team of NL players against a team of AL players and the baseball fans select the starting players.

Before the World Series was set up in 1903, numerous other postseason championships were played with guidelines of their own. Though they didn t get the official recognition but certainly they provide an in-depth basis of The Fall Classic. The World Series is full of charismatic moments, some annoying and some bizarre and some contemptuous.  The first official World Series was a best-of-nine affair played between the already established National League and novice American League in which Boston Pilgrims defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by 5-3. The 1904 Series due to some dispute between the league presidents was not played. The Series started again in 1905 and followed a best-of-7 game series format. Since then the World Series has followed the best-of-seven format. For a short while from 1919 to 1921 the Series returned to best-of-nine. The New York Yankees have the most World Series titles, with 26 championship titles. The Yankees are also the highest paid team in the MLB.

After investigations it became apparent that Base Ball was played at Cooperstown in New York and England before 1839. On June 19, 1846 the first baseball team competed at the Elysian Fields, Hoboken, N.J. the contest was played between the Knickerbockers and the New York Nine. Subsequent five decades saw a slow and steady growth of baseball.
