Hello, I am Dan Walker, founder of Wiscigan Genealogy Serivce.  I was born on 21 February 1959 in Hammond, Indiana to Jasper Johnson Walker and Anne Elizabeth Currie.  I graduated from Cornell (Wisconsin) High School in 1977, graduated from Trans American School of Broadcasting in Wausau, WI in 1978, and studied journalism and mass communications at UW-Eau Claire and UW-Superior.  I live in Rhinelander, WI, home of the Hodag, a creature concocted by Gene Shepard during the logging days to induce some excitement, a little "Shepard's Pie."  I live close to some of the most beautiful lakes the Northwoods has to offer and am a day's trip away from Lakes Michigan and Superior,  some spectacular waterfalls, and  the mysterious Paulding Light.  Highlights of my life have been meeting the Clintons and the Gores, having my picture taken with disco diva Donna Summer, and becoming Homecoming Prince at UW-Superior in 1987.
I enjoy walking through old cemeteries and finding out about who is interred in them.
Since getting into genealogy in the early 1990s, I have found out that my ggggg-grandfather Thomas Knowlen of Passadumkeag, Maine was murdered by one of his furring partners, a Mr. Thompson in 1828, my ggg-grandfather Eldredge Stanton of Coborg, Ontario was killed on his 44th birthday, New Year's Eve 1813 at the Battle of Black Rock (Buffalo, New York), and also on a New Year's Eve 95 years later my grandfather Orrin Edwin Walker purposely drank arsenic and died in the family barn just south of Estherville, Iowa leaving 6 children orphaned.  Genealogy is a story of one's heritage.  Let me research your genealogy.

                               1837 FOUNDATION OF NORTHERN MAINE
I have been named the Midwest Director of the 1837 FOUNDATION OF NORTHERN MAINE, a non-profit organization whose mission is to celebrate and commemorate the post Treaty of Paris years when the borders between New Brunswick and Maine were finally established.  In 1837, the land was divided into townships and plantations and thus the formation of Aroostook County, Maine.  I am a proud descendant of some of these people including Isaiah Pishion of Masardis, John Rollins of Portage Lake, and Martha Morrison (the former Mrs. Thomas Knowlen) of New Limerick.  A special census was taken that enumerated the heads of household.  Our mission is to locate as many of the descendants of these pioneers so that we can collect information, photographs, and artifacts so we can build through the assistance of the State of Maine, endowments, corporate sponsors, fundraising, and memberships a museum/repository.
The mission is to encourage members and visitors to use the museum's grounds to hold family reunions, communicate with each other via online message boards, and it is the mission to secure and identify buildings and structures of the period so they can be registered with the National Registry of Historic Places.
Future Aroostook War re-enactments are also being planned at Ft. Kent and Ft. Fairfield.
Should you wish further information or to become a member of the 1837 Foundation of Northern Maine, please contact its founder Roberta (Katie) Williams of LaGrange, Maine at nome1837@gwi.net.  She is a distant cousin of mine that I met through genealogical posting and has become one of my Maine genealogical correspondents and partners-in-crime.
