Well that was a wild ride!
We went to my Sister in laws house yesterday and I kept telling my daughet... "Just watch, she will have had the babies by the time we get hom." Well, I got home and she was still preggers but she was acting funny. She would just sit and stare at me with that "Children of the corn" stare. You know the kind, the one that makes you look behind you and then wonder if the staree is thinking of different ways to kill you in your sleep... yep, that kind of stare. I was starting to really wonder and then she climbed into my lap and begged for love. I was petting her and I kept feeling her tensing. I told Bill that she had to be in labor and he of course rolled his eyes at me. A few minutes later her whole body tensed and you could see this weird, wicked bulge by her tail. Of course by now I am FREAKING out thinking that this cat is going to give birth on my lap! We had tried fixing her places, finding her a box, etc.. but she had wanted nothing to do with it. Bill pulled out a box and we put a pillow and some towels in there and tried to lay her in it. She jumped out and climbed back into my lap. At this point, I am almost resigned to the fact that I am going to be a lamaze coach for the cat and I tried the box again. I had to put her in and gently push her into a laying down position about four times until she finally stayed. The only way I could get her to stay in there was to sit next to the box and rub her head. If I stopped, she tried to get out. So, there I am.. rubbing the cats head and terrified to see what was going to happen next when she lets out this horrible screechy yowl and scared about five years off my life. There was baby number one. She started cleaning and I reeled in horror and went to have a cig break. She was done with my help at that point and wanted to be left alone, which was A-OK with me... blech, that gets right gross!
At one point we checked on her and I saw that one little one hadn't made it. It broke my heart! Poor little thing, but it was soooo tiny, half the size of the others. I am not sure if she didn't clean it fast enough or if it was just too little. We burried it out back with the lizard we lost when we first got the house.
We wound up with five little ones, two look like they will be pure black, one is a brown with tiger stripes and two look just like Momma. They are all doing well and she is doing great. I figured that she wouldn't have much to do with me and would stay with her babies all day, but she has been attached to my hip today. She goes in and lays with them a bit and you see her slink out really slowly like she is trying to not wake them up and she comes to me. Poor thing has to be sore and I'm sure having five babies hanging off your tits is just loads of fun.
The kittens are soooo cute, I just wanna pick them up and hug them and squeeeeze them and love them allll over! But, I refrain. For. now. LOL
Pictures.....

This is the first Baby born upclose but it is quite blurry.

First born baby up close, a better pic... don't you just wanna hug it?

Mommaandbabies2

Momma and the babies... I'm not sure exactly what her eyes are saying, but its probably something like... "If I see that rat bastard that did this to me again, I will claw his eyes out!"

We have a baby!!! One kitten was born about half an hour ago... she is getting ready to have number two now. She is still cleaning and had me rubbing her head until the first one popped out and then wanted nothing more to do with me... which is A-OK with me! It turned into Wild Kingdom and I was fine bowing out to sit on the sidelines! I will update as more come and I keep trying to get pictures. The first one looks just like Momma! This is exciting.

Edit: There are three now. She is barely letting me glance in at them now.. that protective instinct has kicked in. They all three look like Momma. So adorable!!!

Edit: There are now five.. there were six but one little sweetheart didn't make it. I didn't have the heart to see if it was a boy or girl. I tried to clean it and see if I couldn't massage it to breath but it was gone. My wonderful husband fashioned a little casket and we just came in from burying it. I couldn't stand to let it sit all night until tomorrow so we went and burried it tonight. Bless its tiny little heart. I'm not sure if she is done yet or not... we shall see.
