The following is a brief description of updates/changes made to the WHS Alumni Web Site Pages since its inception in 1997:

09/23/02:  Created a new WHS related web site called On The Hill. This new site will provide all of us who attended WHS school a way to get more personally involved in the development of the WHS web community.

09/20/02:  A new web page, Growing Up In a Coal Camp, has been added to our Other Links of Interest.  Posted the 1954-55 Superior Maitland 7th grade class picture. Many of these students later became part of the WHS Class of 1960.  All prior message board pages beginning with January 1999 are now posted HERE.   Added the following to the upcoming Reunions page: WHS Class of 1956  47th class reunion, Lost in the Fifties Reunions, & WHS Classes of the Sensational Sixties  2005 reunion.

07/25/02:  Added links to the newly created McDowell County Long Term Flood Recovery Task Force web site and the Shinbrier website's Coal & Rail Photos .  Posted copies of photos of Linkous Park and the Iaeger Drive-In Theater taken by O. Winston Link in the late 50s.  Updated our Gift Ideas page to include a link to Appalachian Life Magazine which has published articles written by former WHS student and author of Home Spun Yarns, Phylenia Snow French.

07/13/02:  Posted Norm Farthing's (WHS '46) Tribute to Coach Callaway.  Posted pictures from the WHS Sensational Sixties June 21-22, 2002, reunion.  Posted photos of the demolotion of the former Tic Toc Grill building; and added a few additional items to our Gift Ideas page.

06/01/02:  Added links to list of various web sites featuring pictures of the May 2002 flooding in McDowell County and flood relief organizations, and message boards,  Hometown Pride Forum and McDowell County Forum.

04/18/02:  Added pictures of the 1944-45 Maroon Wave Basketball Team and the 1945 Maroon Wave Football Team.

03/24/02:  Updated our Other Links and Gift Ideas pages to include  Songs of Appalachia  which features a CD recorded by Alan Ashworth, WHS '69.

03/20/02:  Posted Anita Collins Martin's article about the 2001 Fab Fifties reunion.  Added Jean Battlo's (WHS '57) newest book, "The Mahotep Synod", to our Gift Ideas web page.

02/08/02:  Added a link to Online Appalachian Heritage Resource Center
to our Other Links page.

1/14/02:  As a special tribute to our deceased classmates, Bob Martin, WHS '53, has created a new web page which features their yearbook photos.  Classes of '52 & '53 are featured at this time; others will be added over the next few months.

12/09/01:  Added a link to Concord College Association websites to our Other Links page.  Posted photos from the Fabulous Fifties October 2001 reunion.

11/17/01:  Posted photo of the WHS Class of 1948's reunion in 1987 and  WHS Class of 1941's reunion in 1976.

11/12/01:   Moved WHS Class of '55 Senior Pictures, Class of '55 Reunion Photos  and WHS Band Pictures to new web pages.

10/07/01: Posted pictures taken at the all-WHS alumni cookout of June 23, 2001.

10/04/01:  Added photos from Welch Flood Demolition to Pictures Links page.

08/12/01:  Set up a new Message Board,  posted class of '56 June 2001 reunion pictures, added some new books to the Gift Ideas page, and created pages listing the students the Fab Fifties and Sensational Sixties reunion committees are seeking.

07/17/01: Posted pictures from the May 21-25, 2001 WHS Alumni Reunion Cruise.

07/13/01:  Posted a picture of the Sub-Deb Club '53-'54.  (Thanks, Anita Hylton Hogue, for the web page help!)

07/12/01:  Links were added to our Gift Ideas and the Freida Riley Scholarship pages  for ordering an advance copy of Homer Hickam's new book, "Sky of Stone" to be released in October 2001.   Additional students from Mrs. Decker's 4th grade class have been identified on the '62 Memories page.

06/09/01:  Posted pictures of Superior/Maitland Elementary school students from the early 50s and the Welch Elementary 1946-47 sixth grade class.

06/06/01:  Posted pictures from Welch Elementary school in the early 50s.  Added  to our Other Links page the  Freida Riley Scholarship Fund and the Asco Holler Reunion Online web pages.

06/05/01:  Posted a picture of some '44 - '45 WHS grads when they were students at Superior/Maitland .  Added a link to Those Fabulous 60's to our Real Audio page.  Added pictures of another couple (Dale & Awyn Wheeler Walls) to our WHS Couples pages.

05/27/01:  Posted pictures from the 1992 and 1995 Fabulous Fifties reunions.

05/15/01:  Recently posted to the site are several pictures from the late-30s to mid-40s, starting with the Senior Class of 1945.  Links from that page include the 1945 A Cappella Choir, 1981 Class of '45 Reunion Photos, additional photos of WHS students from the late-30s thru mid-40s, and some great sports-related Maroon Wave articles. Many thanks to Rosemary Brunschwyler Kenney (WHS '45) for sharing all these memories with us.

The Other Links web page now includes links to The Old Virginia Homeplace which includes some wonderful pictures of McDowell County, and the website for Nostalgia Inn, a bed & breakfast at Pipestem, which is owned and operated by '56 WHS grad, Eleanor Triplett White and her husband, James. Also added a link to our Gift Ideas page to Eleanor & James White's recently published book, "Squire's Legacy."

05/04/01:  A couple of the sites on our Other Links page have changed their web site addresses.  These include:  Robert Duff's Personalized Drawings and the McDowell County WV GenWeb Project sites.   Note that, in addition to the Special Edition prints of Welch High School, Robert Duff has a smaller print (about the size of a #10 envelope) available for $8.50 each. He also sells many other items with an imprint of his version of the school.  Also, a new link has been added to our Other Links page for Lydia Mong's web site; Lydia is an actress currently on tour doing Jean Battlo's (WHS '57) play on Emily Dickinson.

The web page for the Fabulous Fifties has been updated to provide information about the upcoming October reunion.

 04/13/01:  Added new links to the Other Links page for the Princeton Times and a web page featuring links to various other media sites in West Virginia.

04/08/01:  Added a link to "The Surf" Beach & Boogie Music Radio Station 94.9 from Myrtle Beach, SC to our Real Audio web page.

4/04/01:  Created the Sensational Sixties 2002 Reunion web page and a web page providing information about the 2001 All-WHS Cookout.  Updated the 1969 Reunion & 1956 Reunion web pages.

03/31/01:  Added David Grubb's Thunder in the Mountains, a web page about the two major mine explosions at Havaco, to our Other Links of Interest page.

03/24/01:  Added Mike Zuchick's WHS Picture Album to our Picture Links page and put a link on our Real Audio pages to Donnie's Rockin' Memories.

03/08/01:  Two new links added to the Other Links of  Interest  page:  Gene Hamby's (WHS '60) My Collection Corner and The West Virginia Web.

03/01:  Set up a page to provide the names of Class Contacts for each school year.  Note, several years still need volunteers to serve as class contacts.  Updated the WHS Reunions pages to include the upcoming 1969 & '62, '63, & '64 reunions.  Added a link to Doug Harmon's The Road to Berwind web site which features some terrific pictorial memories of McDowell County (the music is pretty good too).

02/25/01:  We have a new Message Board with a totally new format (and less advertising), more Yearbooks on CD are now available, and the WHS Sweethearts, as well as the web page featuring the Class of '56's 1991 reunion have been relocated.    All links have been corrected.  If you find a broken link (or any other problems), please email me.

02/14/01:  Due to a problem with our original web host, several of the WHS Alumni Web Site pages had to be moved.  Corrections are being made to all the pages to ensure the affected links are working properly.  Major changes to the site can now be provided by email.  If you would like to subscribe to this service, click HERE.  The 1951 WHS annual is now available on CD.

02/03/01:  Created a new web page providing information on the WHS Yearbooks on CD .  Added a link on the WHS Senior Class of 1953 to a web page created in memory of the deceased from that class.

01/12/01:  Added a link from our  All-WHS Alumni Cruise  page to a new page providing  Cruise Tips .

01/01/01:  Added a link on the Gift Ideas page to  Pencil Palette  a site featuring West Virginia art work by Vera K. Atkisson.  Added Wanda Bradley-Smith's West Virginia pages to our Other Links page.  Her site includes some great photography and stories by folks who live or once lived in WV.  Posted more snapshots of the Class of '60 reunion.  Created an Oldies Jukebox providing the original versions of recordings from the 40s-70s.

12/11/00:  Additional snapshots from the Class of '60 reunion were posted.

12/1/00:  Snapshots have been added to the Class of '60 40th Reunion Pictures and the picture of downtown Welch from the 1955 yearbook has been upgraded.  Added a link to  The Town of Davy web site which was created by MVHS 10th grader, Richard Sizemore. Posted some grade school (and earlier) pictures of the WHS Class of '62 .

11/15/00:  Posted  Class of '60 40th Reunion Pictures and pictures of  Bottom Creek Grade School .  Added an additional snapshot to the Class of '55 Reunion Pictures .  Note that e-Cards from the Free State now include a picture of WHS.

10//31/00:  Posted  Class of '55 Reunion Pictures , created a new  Message Board , added a new couple to the WHS Sweethearts  page,  & added a link to e-Cards from the Free State.

10/22/00:  Updated the Other Links page to include a link to the Forks of Cheat Winery, Mike's Workshop and Homer Hickam's  new web site home page.  Provided information on the Gift Ideas page about ordering Rocket Boys gifts.

10/17/00:  Additional photos have been added to the Golden Reunion Photos pages and the  WHS Sweethearts Online.  Pictures from the 8/5/00 WHS Alumni cookout are posted  HERE. A few additional gift items have been added to the  WHS Online catalog.

09/20/00:  Posted pictures from WHS '62 & '64 Myrtle Beach mini reunion.  Added Bramwell News Pages to our Other Links page.

09/16/00:  Added the newly released McArts 2001 Calendar to our Welch/WV-related gift ideas page.

09/13/00:  Posted the  Golden Reunion Photos  for the class of 1950 & added the McArts 2001 McDowell County Calendar to the Gift Ideas page.

09/09/00:  Posted the  70s Reunion Photos

09/03/00:  Read about the upcoming cruise for all former WHS students, their friends and family HERE.

08/10/00:  Posted photos from the June 2000 WHS Classes of '52 & '53 Reunion .

07/28/00:  Added a page of the class of '45 snapshots provided courtesy of Gwen Austin Brammer (WHS '45).

07/25/00:  Added 2 more pages to Post Card Pictures .

07/24/00:  A photo of the 1946-1947 Premier 2nd and 3rd grade classes is now online.  And, you can see WHS class of '64 reunion pictures and Welch grade school pictures HERE.  Added another couple's picture to WHS Sweethearts Online

07/17/00:  Updated the Gift Ideas page with information about ordering WHS T-shirts individually or as a group and provided a link to order Homer Hickam's new book, "The Coalwood Way."

07/16/00:  Added a third page to WHS Sweethearts Online -- there is lots of room left here for some more pictures, so please send us a few of you and your honey.  Set up a site to order WHS T-shirts, mugs and mouse pads.  Added  Weekend with Denver & Denver  to our Real Music  page.

07/03/00:  Added  King Coal Highway  web site to Other Links of Interest page.  Updated the Real Music page with a link to  Spinner Lite , a really great music-by-the-original-artists site.  Created a second obituary page to provide the names of deceased classmates for each WHS graduating class.

6/11/00:  Created a  Search Engine for the WHS Alumni Web Site.  Posted  1965 Grade School photos.  Updated the  Real Music page.  Added  The West Virginia Book Company to  Gift Ideas.

05/23/00:  Provided a Missing Persons page.  Updated the  Other Links of Interest  page to include a link to the Coalwood Memories web site.  Added a link to High School Alumni on our  Student Locators page.

05/07/00:  Posted the 20-year and the 1995 reunion pictures of the WHS Class of '57.

05/04/00:   WHS Senior Class of 1934 now has a web page featuring pictures of the senior class and their 50-year reunion photo.  A second page of  pictures has been added to WHS Sweethearts Online and the class of 1956 has announced their 45th reunion to be held June 1-3, 2001.

04/01/00:  Updated  In Memoriam web page.  Note we are now identifying recently added death notices by placing an asterisk beside the name in the alphabetical list at the top of the page.  We are also attempting to include with the death notices a link to any other WHS page, such as those containing senior class pictures, with information pertaining to the deceased.  This link project may take quite some time to accomplish; please be patient.

03/19/00:  See  More Carswell Kids  photos provided courtesy of Mike Zuchick.

03/13/00:  Other Links of Interest page updated to show new location of Robert Duff's web page, Unique Drawings and to add a link to The Original Rocket Boys web site.  The  WHS 70s Reunion page was updated to reflect decisions made at the reunion committee's last meeting.

03/03/00:  Created the  WHS Sweethearts Online web page featuring couples from On the Hill.  Added new links to the Gift Ideas web page.

01/31/00:  Updates to the In Memoriam page include posting the names of some for whom we do not have exact dates of death (Helen Sizemore, Donald Gouge, Richard McGan, and Hazel Noe).  Please contact the webmaster if you can provide further information.

A link to Mount View High School's online newspaper  U-Knighted Press was added to our Other Links of Interest page. (The editor is the daughter of WHS alumni Pat Damron, owner of many of the wonderful old postcard prints featured on the WHS Web Site.)

01/20/00:  Posted the  WHS Class of 1969 Reunion Group Photo , updated the In Memoriam page and added a link to  Coalfields Expressway to our Other Links of Interest page.

01/19/00:  The  WHS 70s Reunion  page has been updated to reflect decisions made at the last reunion committee meeting on January 10.  Posted photo of the 1956 WHS Class at their 35-Year Reunion.

01/16/00: Revised our main  WHS Alumni Web Site .  You may need to refresh/reload to see the new version. Note the added link  to  Web Teacher , a great web site recommended by  Dee Qualls  for learning how to use the Internet.  Please let me know if you run across any links that are not working properly.

01/14/00:  MORE pictures!  Thanks to Pat Damron and Brenda Lombardo Turner, we now have more old Postcard Pictures of the Welch area posted.

01/12/00:  Added links to  Gift Ideas  and  Photographic Memories  to a new web page featuring the year 2000 WHS Calendars created by John Spencer (WHS '58).  Added  United States On Line to our  Other Links of Interest  page.  Thanks to Dee Qualls for informing us about the United States On Line site.  The West Virginia page is, of course, the most interesting one there!

01/09/00:  Created  Maroon Wave Assembly Hall III  This third message board includes links back to the messages posted at Assembly Hall I and II.  Don't forget to update your bookmarks.

12/28/99:   Photos of WHS from the early 1900s can be viewed HERE  courtesy of Elizabeth (Haynes) Lovett, WHS '41.   Those Kids from Carswell Holler  page now features a photo of those who attended the July 1999 Sensational Sixties reunion.  And, thanks to Bob Wilson, there are even more photos (from the late 1940s) of those Carswell kids  HERE .  Two new links were recently added to the Real Audio web page.

12/21/99:  Updated the In Memoriam page.  Please, please review this page closely to ensure we have correctly included your submissions.  Be sure to check out the new sites we have added to the Other Links page.

11/30/99:  Included an email contact on the Gift Ideas page to order the WHS T-shirts. Page 5 of snapshots from the Sensational Sixties Reunion are now online.

11/27/99:  Added a link to the  WHS Golden Anniversary Reunion web site created by the reunion committees of the WHS 1949, 1950 & 1951classes.  This is an extremely well-done web site providing information about the activities planned for these alumni at their June 16-18, 2000 reunion.

11/26/99:  Added links on the Gift Ideas page to Cookin' In A Coal Camp cookbook and WHS Framed Drawing.

11/25/99:  More photos added to the 40s Classes Photo Memories page including a photo of the first WHS May Court.

11/21/99:  Set up a web page to assist folks with their Holiday Shopping.  It's called  Welch/WV-related Gift Ideas and features links to various pages on the WHS Alumni Web Site with information about about purchasing books and other WV-related items.  Included is a link to another new web page about the  McDowell County 2000 Calendar .

11/18/99:  Liz Burton Drees (WHS '53) shares photos of future '52 & '53 WHS grads when they were students at Vivian Grade School and Kimball Jr. High

Added a link to the web site for Woodrow Wilson High School Alumni  recently created by Jeff Miller who currently lives in New Port Richey, FL but is a true West Virginian through and through.  (He also thinks our WHS Alumni web site is pretty cool!)

11/16/99:  More photos from Bob Martin can now be viewed at the  WHS 1953 Senior Class 20-Year Reunion web page.

11/05/99:  Bob Wilson shares with us some of his photos from the late '40s - early-50s on the More of Those Kids from Carswell Holler  web page. Mucho thanks to Bob Martin for helping with the graphics.

11/2/99:  The  WHS Senior Class of 1952  pictures are now online. Again, many thanks to Bob Martin, WHS '53, for a terrific job.  Received notice that Welch High School has been added to the School News web site.  This is a high school and college alumni data base which is listed on our Search Links page.

11/1/99:  Added photos from the WHS Class of 1954 1999 Reunion , their  1986 Reunion and some related '54 Reunion Snapshots .

10/30/99:  Updated  Rocket Boys Lottery page to reflect outcome of raffle to raise money for Freida Riley Scholarship.

10/18/99:  See the  WHS Senior Class of 1953 online.  Thanks to Bob Martin, WHS '53, for a simply lovely job of scanning the pictures and a ton of help with the web page set up.

10/17/99:  You can thank Bob Greene for this one: a link on the Real Music web page to some of the best old music you've ever heard on the Internet: World's Favorite Radio Station .  All the music here is OUR kind of music and there are no "buffering" delays, etc. involved.  We've also added a link to WV Magazine, thanks to a suggestion from Roy Morgan. This site provides an online source to some of those wonderful pictures you may have seen in the WV Magazine.  As Roy says, they are so pretty, you may want to pack up and move back home.

10/8/99:  Created  Search Links  to help you find old friends and former schoolmates.  Thanks to Deloris Santos Qualls for suggesting this site and to the MVHS webmaster for allowing us to copy the links.  This is just another effort to help us locate former WHS students AND for them to find the WHS Web pages.  Reunion committees are urged to log onto the sites listed here to announce their upcoming reunions.

10/1/99:  Senior pictures for the WHS Class of 1954 are now available online.  This page includes a link to a  dedication page for Principals Hollingsworth and Richardson and a link to a very special site Nita Clark Grattan has set up in memory of her mother, Betty Lou Blankenship, WHS class of 1954, who passed away earlier this year.

9/29/99:  Added a web page for the upcoming 40th reunion of the WHS Class of 1960 scheduled October 13-15, 2000 at Pipestem, WV.

9/23/99:  Link to  Goldenseal  magazine added to  Other Links  page.  Articles by several of our WHS classmates, including Jean Battlo and  Brenda Hensley West, have been published in this magazine which features traditional West Virginia life stories.

9/22/99:  Added a fourth page of photos from the Sensational Sixties Reunion  HERE

9/21/99:  The In Memoriam page has been updated, thanks whs@postmark.net.  We are using the notices you provide which include definitive information.  If you have previously provided names and/or approximate dates of death only, please keep trying to obtain more complete information.  Looks like the latest and greatest new guest book is not working out so well.  Please be patient; we'll get it fixed or find something new to use.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

9/17/99:  Set up a new guest book and FINALLY remembered to add the required link so you can sign on! Be sure to SIGN the new guest book to be included in our email updates.  Added a new link on Other Links of Interest page to Jeff Miller's West Virginia page.

9/12/99:  A search link has been added to some of the WHS web sites.  The one being used, 4anything.com, was selected after a bit of research.  Try entering an old friend's name in the search block and see what happens.  This search link can be used like any other search engine such as Yahoo, Hotbot, Lycos, etc.

9/11/99:  Added two sites to the Other Links of  Interest page:  Mount View Key Club  and  WVSPN .  The Mount View Key Club site covers their trip to the International convention in July; this is an excellent web site, done by MVHS student Josh Morgan, with lots of great photos and good use of web utilities -- way to go, Josh!  WVSPN, another cool site, provides information on high school sports in the good State of West Virginia.

8/20/99:  Real Audio Links created.  Use this page to find music to listen to while you surf the Internet.  Compositions provided are by the original artists.
