| I spent the first 17 years of my life perm free. I hated it. I wanted to have, straight, flowing, "easy to manage" hair. In 1995 I shaved off my long, natural hair into a TTTWA. I kept this style for about a year, and then got braided extensions until my hair grew to about 8 inches. I finally got a perm (relaxer) in the summer of 1998 and I thought I could finally be happy...I could have never been more wrong. As a competitive swimmer throughout college, I learned how damaging chlorine and daily washing was on chemically straightened hair. To those who had been perming thier hair since they were in thier early teens, my hair was in great shape but by May of 2002 I knew it was time for me to start over... On August 10, 2002 I cut off my long permed hair to .5 inches of not-so-nappy nappiness and decided to chronicle the journey... |
