| November 2, 2002: Today Westhill competed in the long-anticipated Section III Championship meet, held at ESM High School. Although Westhill did not have the race it was loking for, we finished 4th overall (out of 19 teams) with 154 points, behind Mount Markham (59), Chittenango (95) and South Jefferson (116). Individually, Kevin Blaich finished first for the team (12), followed by Tim Hartnett (18), Rick DeCarr (27), Matt Zych (45), and Andrew Lewis (52). Although 4th place was not what we were hoping for, we should be proud of the mere fact that 4th isn't good enough for us anymore - a few years ago, Westhill would have died to come in 4th at Sectionals, but now, that's seen as a sub-par performance. Our constant raising of our standards indicates a very strong and talented team developing. For that, I congratulate all runners and coaches involved in the construction of such a fine team. Also, our congratulations go to the Westhill girl's team, who ran one of their best races of the season, won Sectionals with 43 points, and will represent Section III at the State Meet at Sunken Meadows State Park this weekend. We wish them the very best of luck. ***Update: The girls finished an excellent 3rd at States, and moved on to Federations, where they finished the 2nd Class B team in the State. |
