| October 26, 2002: Congratulations to the Westhill Cross-Country team for an outstanding showing at the OHSL Championship Meet. Out of 41 teams, the Varsity team took 7th place overall, with JV finishing an outstanding 11th! In the Varsity race, Kevin Blaich led the team in, finishing 21st with an exceptional time of 17:19 (very good for a very muddy course.) Kevin was the third sophomore and the second Class B1 runner in the entire race! Following Kevin were Rick DeCarr (49) and Matt Zych (50), both with a time of 18:10. Also running Varsity were Tim Hartnett (68) Dave Riccardi (107, and first time ever scoring for Varsity), Mike Clark (132, whose place broke the tie with Cato-Meridian for 7th) and Andrew Lewis (151, who ran very well after recent injuries). In the Junior Varsity race, Mark Leonard led the team in in 21st (Mark has had a recent achillis injury and ran very well considering this.) Following Mark were Jeremy Bongio (44), Taylor Mulherin (61), Steve Leonard (64), and Mike Trendowski (118 - This was Mike's first XC race this year and impressed everyone with his awesome performace.) The teams have moved up considerably over the past years - last year, Westhill Varsity finished 15th at OHSLs, finishing 8 spots better this year (beating rivals such as Skaneateles along the way.) Both teams should feel very proud of their achievements. Also, congratulations to the Westhill girl's teams: Varsity finished 2nd (getting edged only by Liverpool by 6 points), and JV Girls finished 2nd as well. Congratulations Westhill. |
