| September 18, 2002: In a very difficult race on an extremely confusing course, Chittenango defeated Westhill in the first dual meet of the season (34-23). Although we lost the meet, there were some incredible prefromances all over the course. Near the front of the pack, Kevin Blaich and Rick DeCarr again showed their talent by placing 3rd and 4th. Tim Hartnett stepped up when needed to finish an excellent 14th as Westhill's 5th man. The race was won by Andrew Foxenburg of Chittenango (17:23). In the same meet, Westhill competed against Homer and finished victorious (19-41). Congratulations to all athletes who ran today...we're off to a very good season. |
| September 25, 2002: Congratulations to the boy's XC team for defeating Cortland today at a home League Meet. The final score was Westhill - 15, Cortland - 50, with Westhill sweeping 1-8! The race was won by Kevin Blaich, (16:58) with Rick DeCarr second and Matt Zych third. Also scoring were Andrew Lewis in fourth and Tim Hartnett fifth. This race showed a great deal of the rising talent we have on our team....I think this Saturday at Tully will be a great race to see this team in a larger meet, and we're looking to do very well. Congratulations to all runners for an exceptional perfromance and win today. |
| October 2, 2002: Congratulations to the guys' XC team for two more dual-meet wins. Today Westhill took on Jamesville-Dewitt and Phoenix at Jamesville-Dewitt high school. The scores were: Westhill 26, Jamesville-Dewitt 30, and Westhill 19, Phoenix 43. Although the race against J-D was closer than expected, Westhill's top 3 runners (Kevin Blaich, Rick DeCarr, and Matt Zych) finished before their second to ensure the win. The race was won by J-D's Manuel Karam, who edged Westhill's Kevin Blaich at the finish (Blaich kicked a little too late, but still race an exceptional race). Rick DeCarr lead a good portion of the race (up until the last 1/2 mile) before Karam pulled ahead and finished 10 seconds faster. Some random great races by Jeremy Bongio, who made it to Varsity for B'Ville this Saturday, and Nate Fedrizzi, who moved up considerably from last race. Nice job guys. |
| October 9, 2002: Even with the abscence of some key runners, and the entire team getting lost, Westhill overtook Mexico today in a home dual meet (16-43.) The team finished 1-2-3-4-6 to ensure a near-sweep victory. Rick DeCarr was the race winner in a time of 15:55. This was also Rick's last XC dual meet for Westhill, so we were all very happy to see him win. Five second later Kevin Blaich came across the line, and then Tim Hartnett (3), Andrew Lewis (4), and Mark Leonard (6). The team ran very well, considering Matt Zych and Chris Pallotta were out injured - everyone really filled in where they needed to. We finished the dual-meet season with a 5-1 record, finishing 2nd in the B-1 division. Congratulations to all runners for a great dual-meet season. |
