| October 16, 2002: Today Westhill captured a 3rd place finish in the B-1/B-2 Crossover Championship at Phoenix High School. Even with nonstop rain and very thick mud, there were some excellent performances by many runners. Rick DeCarr ran an outstanding race and finished 7th overall, the 3rd runner for B-1. His time was 16:58, only 2 seconds behind Chittenango's Ozzie Myers. Following Rick were Kevin Blaich (11) and Tim Hartnett (16) - Tim continues to move up considerably with every race. Following and Kevin and Tim was Matt Zych (32), who was recovering from an Achilles injury. After Matt finished Andrew Lewis (38) as Westhill's 5th man. Also, some special attention should be directed to some Westhill runners who were named to the B-1 All-League Teams. To be placed on a team, you must finish in the top 10 for B-1 to make 1st team, and top 20 to make 2nd team. Westhill had 6 runners be placed on the B-1 All-League Teams! Rick DeCarr, Kevin Blaich, and Tim Hartnett all made 1st team! Matt Zych, Andrew Lewis, and Mike Clark were named to the 2nd team! Last year, only two Westhill runners (Matt Zych and Rick DeCarr) were put on teams - the 6 runners this year shows the considerable improvement our team is doing. Congratulations to everyone for their run today. Also, congratulations to the girls' team - they finally took home 1st place after 4 years of finishing 2nd. Nice job the girls for their well-deserved win! |
