HERON PARK REBORN
2001
Originally built in the 1950's, on the site of the current Morningside Library, the
Heron Park Community Centre served the West Hill community for half a century. But
the building had aged and the population it was designed to serve had
blossomed beyond belief. And the parking lot was always inadequate to its needs. As West hill entered a new Millenium, it was
time for a new beginning.
Ground was broken for the
$4,000,000 project in the year 2000. The new modern Community Centre
would now front the twin skating rinks and be better intergrated into
the Heron Park Site. The new Centre would revitalize the area and provide opportunity for more varied uses and events.
By 2001 the work neared
completion and a new heart for the West Hill Community prepared to
open its doors. By September the new building was open and the old
Community Centre was demolished. A new era in West Hill had begun.
The beautiful new building is now extremely busy and the focal point of West Hill's recreational activities. The parking lot is, once again, inadequate to its needs.
