In 1969 the Humble Oil & Refining Company of Houston, Texas was bought by
Standard Oil of New York. Humble was originally founded in 1922 by a small
group of "wildcatters" who lived in Beaumont, Texas. They were immigrant
workers who were tired of being manipulated by the oil barons of their
time. Managing somehow to save up enough money, they tried their hand
at drilling oil for themselves. With a lot of determination and very
hard work they built Humble into a small but successful enterprise. By
the mid 60's most of the original partners had died, and control of the
company fell to their decendants.
Oil bought their company, Standard evolved into what is now called Exxon.
