Roscoe

Roscoe was, we estimate, born in the Spring of 1997.  He's a neutered male goat.

Before he came to live with us on 20 May 2001 (the same day Wilma joined us) he was living with a family in rural Kaiwaka, where he was much loved.  Unfortunately, they had difficulty controlling him, as he escaped his confines on a regular basis, and they decided it was time to find him a new home - just as we were deciding we wanted a goat or two.

Before that, he'd lived on a property neighbouring this family that was owned by a "weekend farmer" who put two goats on his property to keep the grass down - and then neglected them to the point that the other goat died before Roscoe was rescued by neighbours.

We're not sure of his breeding, but I think he has some Toggenberg in him.  He's a large boy, but shy and sweet.  He likes nothing better than to have me come and stand next to him, so he can rub himself against me.  He doesn't like his head being touched.

Roscoe likes to sit on top of his house to watch the world go by.  Usually he has a house with a flat roof, but occasionally he has an A-frame house - and while he hasn't worked out how to *sit* on top of it, he can jump up and stand on it.  Smart boy!
