For many years I have tried to piece together the HANDLEY families of the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware. I have many miscellaneous facts which I will present here and hopefully someone out there will benefit from the information and possibly clarify some of the family relationships.
    The notes are organized chronologically and sources stated when known.  The surname was
often found spelled differently within the same family.  Handley, Handly, and Hanley were
frequently interchanged. When we were remodeling a family homeplace a couple of years ago
I found lumber signed with different spellings of Handley either signed by my grandfather or
the lumberyard for delivery.   Please consider all spellings.  Some of the early entries are from
Virginia. I have included them because so many early settlers traveled the Chesapeake Bay
and often relocated on the Eastern side.
