Earth is but the cradle of mankind, but one cannot stay in the cradle forever.
Humanity has finally come of age. We must now break out into space. Not 50 years from now, not one hundred years from now, NOW.
Space should be like any other place for humans to visit, live in, settle down in and raise families in. Our current system is nowhere near versatile enough, strong enough, or is diverse enough to handle the future space travel demands. The wait of over a year for the shuttle to return to space is ludicrous. One accident should not bring about a total stop to the flow of traffic. If an airplane in England crashes, air travel in the USA is unaffected, when a car crashes on the freeway traffic doesn't come to a stand-still 500 miles down the road. So it must be with space travel, or else we will forever be dammed to the inside of this cage of our own creation.
