His stage works include Rent and Wicked, he was the lead character on the TV series, Kevin Hill and has been in many popular movies including The House on Haunted Hill, Equilibrium and Chicago. Idina Menzel (born Idina Kim Mentzel on May 30, 1971 in New York City) is a Jewish American actress, singer and songwriter who is best known for her Tony Award-winning performance in Wicked and her Tony-nominated performance in Rent. Taye and Idina met during rehearsals for the Rent stage production in 1996."I walked in late, and the first person I saw was Idina," says Diggs. "As I was single" -"Single-ish" corrects Menzel- "single-ish at the time," continues Diggs, "I spent the whole time talking to her. But it wasn't until the show transferred to Broadway that I actively pursued her." Idina says, "Everyone got really close, but Taye and I especially became close friends. And then one night we went to the movies, and I think we saw Twister, and he held my hand. And there it was!" The groom donned an off-white suit by John Varvatos, tie-less to coincede with the relaxed atmosphere of the precedings. The bridesmaids wore pristine white corset tops by New York City lingerie boutique La Petite Coquette and beige gypsy style skirts with a ruffled hem created by French designer Christiane Celle of Calypso. They each carried a boquet of small yellow and orange nosegays. .The Ceremony. The ceremony took place on a stone esplanade at water's edge. The aisle was strewn with hundred of mango-colored rose petals, and the Chupa was made from dried bamboo, imported silk swagged the top and poles. As the sounds of Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed" blended with the rush of the waves that danced in the sunset, the bride and groom held hands and recited heartfelt vows. The ceremony incorporated both of their African-American and Jewish traditions. .The Reception. A five-tier cake with a wicker motif embellished with leaves and pale yellow roses awaited the guests as they converged upon the hotel's terrace for the reception. During the reception, the bride and groom sat at the apex of the elevated terrace. Behind them, the ocean; in front their loved ones, the dance floor and a dree wrapped with 2000 lights. The tables were covered with embroidered linens that were flown to Jamaica from New York. The table flowers were white roses and stephanotis. .Photos. The magic of the Caribbean locale had captured the heart of the groom back in 1998, when the then unknown actor portrayed the role of Angela Bassett's young lover in the romantic escapade "How Stella Got Her Groove Back." When it came to planning the wedding, Taye and Idina turned to the husband and wife team of Janeen Saltman and Alden Levy.
