The wheel of time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again...
Currently my favorite author, Robert Jordan weaves an intricate tale of adventure and mystery, prophesy and legend, and a darkness that threatens to consume all. The characters come to life, riddled with their own strengths and weaknesses that result in truly realistic emotions, actions, and situational culminations.
The Dragon Reborn holds the greatest strength of all: saidin, the tainted half of the seemingly unlimited power of the One Source. But he also possesses the greatest weakness; he teeters on the brink of complete and utter madness. Can he hold on to some measure of sanity long enough to fight the Last Battle, and save the world from the grip of the Dark One? And who can save the world from the Dragon Reborn?
I highly recommend these books to any who enjoy a good adventure. Also to any who read The Lord of the Rings, but found the vocabulary difficult to follow, or felt cheated by the final confrontation with Sauron (as I did), or whose favorite character was Gollum. Not to say that I don't recomend the series to those who found LotR to be a literary masterpiece. But WoT differs from LotR in that it doesn't simply pit 'good' against 'evil'; it pits 'free will' against 'fate'.
The first book in the series is called "The Eye of the World," for those who wish to check it out.
