OCTOBER 19, 2001 -- Friday
I knew this before, but I was reminded of this tonight.  After leading worship with Jimmy Ng for our joint worship time with Delta, I've been reminded just how awesome he is.  As Michael would say, he's "a solid guy."  He definitely has his priorities straight and that caught my attention.
And sitting there with Delta tonight, I felt like I was staring our futures in the face.  Helena keeping James entertained could soon be Lisa or Charice doing the same thing for their children.  And having more married people in the mix is already starting to happen (Jason & Debbie soon and a few more couples waiting in the wings).  The only thing I don't want to see happen is how overly serious Delta seems (no offense).  That's not to say that being serious is bad, but they sometimes seem so uptight and are afraid to sing out with joy and laugh.  I hope that in future joint events with them that we as wild and crazy Koinonia (and we ARE wild and crazy) can instill some of that joy and laughter.  After all, we are home of the funniest guy I know (Luong), the most creative guy I know (Jason), the most dramatic guy I know (Michael), and the most off-the-wall guy I know (Larry).  Ahh, young adulthood ... you gotta love it!

OCTOBER 18, 2001 -- Thursday
In honor of Mark's birthday, I had dinner at Lawry's tonight.  This was the first time I had ever been there and the food lived up to the hype.
I started out having the appetizers of actual potato slivered chips and meatballs while waiting for Mark and Gina to arrive.  I highly recommend the meatballs.  For dinner, the spinning salad was both a spectacle to watch and a delight to eat - something about that spinning evenly distributes the dressing to make it taste oh so good!  And of course, I had the prime rib.  I wanted the popular Lawry's cut, but settled for the English cut of three thinner sliced pieces.  At first, I was disappointed at choosing the smaller one, but it turned out to be the wiser choice because I didn't have to eat around a bone like that of the Lawry's cut.  I guess sometimes less IS more.
And I felt very underdressed there (jeans and a nice black long-sleeve shirt.)  I would much rather feel overdressed for anything than undersdressed.  Wouldn't you agree?

OCTOBER 17, 2001 -- Wednesday
Instead of lifting weight today, Mark and I hit the courts for some pick-up basketball.
There is no better way for guys to bond and for goodwill to be shared than a pick-up game.  Guys with bad attitudes, bad reputations, and poor upbringings alike all are gracious and hospitable on the court.
"Nice shot, man." "Way to play."  "Sweet move!"  These are the types of things heard all over the court today by guys to other guys that just met.  I played with 8 other guys I didn't even know (besides Mark) and yet, we were slapping hands, giving the rock (that fist to fist thing you seem athletes do), and patting each other on the back (and NOT the butt like some guys do.  I mean, come on, let's not overdo it!)  I haven't played ball in months (and it obviously showed EXCEPT THAT I MADE THE LAST SHOT TO WIN THE GAME, but who really remembers =) ) and yet guys still were complimenting me.
I have a dream ... that one day real life can mimic life on a basketball court.  Amen.
