Victorian Etiquette.....Calling Cards:

During Victorian times, the tradition of leaving calling cards was very much the fashion. Calling cards were especially designed and printed and were the means of announcing a visit to someone's home. Men carried their cards in a vest pocket and women carried theirs in special card cases which were made of materials such as ivory, silk or silver. Homes had a special tray or bowl on a table in the foyer for cards of guests. A lady left her own card and that of her husband, if she was married. Also, if she had grown daughters, she left their cards as well.
