US 1 has been around since the beginning in 1926, and its north end has always been in Fort Kent ME; you can view photos from there on this page.


At 2,377 miles, US 1 is the longest north-south US route. That's always been true - even back in 1926, when it ran only as far south as Miami, ending at the same place where US 94 began (you can view photos from there on my US 94 page).


By 1938 the south end of US 1 was extended to its current terminus in Key West FL; you can view photos from there on this page.
