Complaints About USBank

I paid off a lease and am having trouble getting a title. Every time I call U S bank , I am told that they will fax me in 48 hours. Well 48 hours has come and gone many times. It does no good to get an employee name or id because they don't exist the next time you call in or there is no record of your last call. I will just say they never mean what they tell you, otherwords they lie. K

I had the same problem with a second mortgage I had with them on my home. I went to refinance they never would fax a payoff to the new lender, he couldn't believe how arrogant they were and how they would just refuse to work with you even though it meant paying them off. I finally went to the local office and spoke to a branch manager who said she doubted this could happen and gave me the stupid 1-800 number. I told her that if I had to I would get a lawyer and challenge the debt. I think that people could get out of USBank loans by challenging them in court to produce original documentation. I don't think they have anyway to store records and I believe that if they were challenged to produce original instrument of debt in a court of law they probably never could! CNW

Us bank took $ 400.00 out of my account without my permission, for "finance charges" on a truck loan, then charged me $ 100.00 in overdraft charges because my checks bounced. BB

The Attorney General in Minnesota is aware of US Banks illegal activities. They only investigate and ultimately penalize the bank if they receive a certain number of complaints. File your complaint with the Consumer Complaints dept. of the State Attorney General in the state which you reside. Today they charged a friend of mine $330 for 11 overdrafts caused by a .52 cent error on their part and they won't correct the overdrafts. FIGHT BACK!!!! JC

Fight Fire with Fire at US Bank - I am happy to know I am not alone with the mess of US Bank. Where do I start. 1. Debt cards will allow cash withdrawls (with no money in the account) 2. They lost a $1500.00 payment for a business overdraft. 3. They are never responsible for there f!?k up. 4. They call you every other day just for your convenience. 5. Harassement is a form of customer service. (That is another charge too!) Remember people if we yell loud enough they will listen, it will be too late. Tell everyone that has an account to move to another smaller bank. SS

US BANK STOLE MY CAP ACCOUNT. I never knew others were having trouble with this bank until I found this group. My bank has changed names a few times and I had over $100,000 in a cap account and when they changed over,my Cap account disapeared. Right before this happen they kept telling me to leave all my money in there that it would grow through the years so I left it in there about 5+years and have nothing to show for it.T

US Bank found guilty- FINALLY!!! DISABLED EMPLOYEE GETS PAYCHECK AFTER 9 YEARS OF AVOIDANCE BY US BANK - For 10 years I have been in a horrible lawsuit with US Bancorp. They illegally took my disability benefits away when I was seriously injured in an auto accident. Then, when I was disabled and down as low as I thought I could go, they fired me. After 10 years and the devotion of a rare attorney I won. Now, I need your help to assist others are disabled and who do not have the ability to fight for what is rightfully theirs. Please read on to discover the facts of this war. As I stated below after a 10 year lawsuit and continued appeals, US Bancorp(First Bank Systems, Colorado National Bank) was found guilty of conflict of interest, and ruled arbitrarily and capriciously (Lacked evidence, Mistook the law, ruled with a conflict of interest and Lacked evidence) in denying my benefits in Jan.1996. US Bancorp was the carrier of a disability insurance plan that I paid for out of my paycheck. I did not know I was paying my employer until I lost my benefits and was fire. This happened when I was seriously injured after a head-on accident with a drunk driver. US Bank did not want to do the responsible thing and pay a very dedicated employee the benefits they deserved so they hired a huge law firm( one that was partnered by a member of their board at one time) to fight me. They paid this attorney what he laughingly called ( my case), his “lifetime annuity”. After millions of dollars spent on legal fees the US Federal court ruled in my favor. This was the 3rd time they ruled in my favor but it did not stop US Bank from fighting me. Many of the doctors and investigators in this case said they have never seen such greed and bad faith in their entire career as my case with US Bank. I am asking for your help to stop the spread of greed. For 10 years I have been in a horrible lawsuit with US Bancorp. After 10 years I hope they at least know my name. I dropped off my US bank charge card payment on the day it was due at my US bank location ($69.73) because I forget to mail it. I was told by my banker Gloria it is the same as mailing it to the center. My next bill showed a late charge of $35.00 plus $2.00 interest for a total of about 55% late fee which is bullshit. So when I called to complain I was told that I could not dispute a late charge??????? Double bullshit. I want someone out there try to explain how a bank can legally change the conditions (late charges) on a card without getting the agreement of the cardholder? G

US Bank has no ethics. I am involved in a lawsuit with US Bank. They use their millions to fight you knowing that you cannot do the same. They lie, steal and cheat any way they can. They even lie in a court of law. I guess US Bank really is an evil pig. A

New law suit in San Joaquin county , CA Discrimination case filed against U.S. Bank corp. AS

US Bank is the absolute worst bank in the world and maybe the biggest collection of idiots. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH US BANK! THEY ARE INNATELY AND INCORRIGIBLY DISHONEST! IF YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNT THERE, GET OUT! First the small stuff, then a "Can you top this?" US Bank horror story. We quit doing business with US Bank once before after some outrageous experiences with them maintaining a hold on our money for days after deposited checks (checks from lawyers and very well known insurance companies) had cleared. Their hold policies are not only unfair and inconvenient, they are arbitrary and unpredictable. So we quit doing business with them when we left Kansas. Now, Can you top this? We foolishly opened another checking account with US Bank when we moved to Ohio. They have branches in some of the states we visit, so we thought it would be convenient to give them another chance. Within 3 months, they had MISTAKENLY GARNISHED our account for $ 2041, Plus they took another $75 out as a garnishment fee for themselves. When I called them, they admitted the mistake: They had failed to check the Social Security numbers on the garnishment order. The SS numbers on the order did not match ours. The names didn't even match ours. The person the garnishment order was against used the name "Clay," while I have always been known by the name "Clayton." This deadbeat’s wife's name was totally different than my wife's name. The US Bank garnishment department told me they had sent my money to a court in Tennessee to satisfy the garnishment order (the garnishment was the result of a judgment against this other person). Believe it or not, they (US Bank) told me that I would have to hire a lawyer to get my money back. Money that US Bank should never have removed from my account in the first place! I told them they had 45 minutes to get my money back into my account, made several threats, and I then called the General Sessions Court in Nashville, which had issued the garnishment order. The clerk at the court told me I would have to hire a lawyer to get the money back, and that I might even have to travel to Nashville! But wait.... She put me on hold.. When she came back, she said that Mike from the Garnishment Department of US Bank had called and that the bank had admitted to making a mistake. But even with this information, she still insisted that I would have to hire a lawyer and maybe travel to Nashville in order to get my money back. She also told me that a shyster lawyer working for a Nashville collection agency had gone fishing for accounts with the debtor's name on it. He had sent similar garnishment orders to Amsouth and several other banks over a period of 2 years. Finally he hit paydirt.. He sent a garnishment order to the idiots at US Bank's Garnishment Department (This is according to the court clerk. Personally, I think the shyster may have used "pretext calling" to learn that US Bank had a customer with a name similar to the debtor's.) Without checking the Social Security numbers, or even the complete names on the order, US Bank gave away my money to the court in Tennessee. My wife and I were apoplectic. Apparently we displayed the proper amount of rage, and made sufficient threats, because before the day was over, the money had been returned to our account. How the bank is going to get its money back from the court or the creditor, I have no idea. As soon as the money got back into our account, my wife and I tried to close out the account that same day and take the balance, over $14,000, in cash. I would rather carry $14,000 on the streets of Cleveland than leave it in the hands of US Bank. But the branch said they didn't have that much cash on-hand. They offered to write a cashier's check. At that point we didn't want to even trust their cashier's check. They then told us it would be better to wait until the next day and get the cash from a larger branch. They said that if they gave us a cashier's check and closed the account right away, we wouldn't be able to cash their cashier's check at another branch because we then wouldn't have any open accounts with US Bank. So we just waited until the next day. We got another branch to write us a check for all but 5 dollars. We promptly took the check and deposited it into another financial institution's money market account. It should be out of reach of US Bank's incompetent hands there. US Bank wouldn't even close our account at that point because we had a transaction pending. What was pending?? You guessed it.. that stupid, measly $5 Five Star Guarantee credit they gave us for all of our trouble. The account still isn't closed. I have had to open a new checking account. I have spent hours on this problem. I would urge anyone to not have anything to do with US Bank -- and spread the word. Your money might be safer under your mattress, or even under your doormat. I sent a letter to the chairman of US Bank and got a reply from "Executive Communications." They said they gave me back my $2000-plus and gave me an extra $5 for my trouble. They said it was unfortunate I found it necessary to close my account. I found it necessary in order to protect my money and save my sanity. This is a bank that promptly gives other people your money but makes you wait days (up to 2 weeks in my experience)to withdraw your deposit, even if it is in the form of a money order or cashier's check. By the way, the reason they claim that they didn't check Social Security numbers on the garnishment order is because they had a lot of legal proceedings to process that day. The way they operate, I have no doubt that they always have a lot of legal claims to process. Banking mistakes are no big deal to US Bank. CH

Some controls on the way banks/cc companies send out credit offers to EVERYONE, irrespective of ability to re-pay (my 3 year old daughter got a $10K credit card offer) also needs to be addressed, with some reposnibilities placed back on the financial industry. And there needs to be some serious additional reform of the credit reporting industry to assure that credit histories are accurate - both the reporting company and the credit report company need to be held accountable for what is included in consumers' credit reports. I have been dissatisfied with US Bank for a long time. I have gotten fed up with their shitty customer service. The worst person I have encountered in my nightmarish journy with US Bank, is Pam who is a manager at US Bank in St. Louis/Southwest Ave branch. She actually wrote me a chiding letter, making me look like a fool, for reporting US Bank to the BBB(Who by the way, are not much better.) I have been living pay check to pay check. So May Co put a garnishment against my account. I have $300.00 in my account, but cannot get it out. US Bank has been very rude about the whole thing. I have told them my situaion, and two reps laughed at me on the phone. I heard one of the call me a nut to who ever was sitting by her I guess. Correct me if I am wrong, but can a bank legally garnish your whole pay check? How is one supposed to live? I was told I cannot get any of my money out untill Feb. I am so angry right now. Anyway, I just thought I would get it off my chest. I tried to close my account, but US Bank would not let me. So, I have contacted my place of employment, to have my next pay check sent to me, where I can deposit it at another bank. MHR

National bank chains SUCK!!!! I used to bank at USBank. The incompetent people there are a JOKE!!!! The service guarantee is a SCAM!!!! And the unjust fees are a RIPOFF!!!! I finally moved my money to a small local branch. RF

This is getting scary-and I think I am just going to change banks because I have lost alot of $. LJ

Here is the letter I sent them. Will post follow-ups. "I have a serious problem with your accounting practices when it comes to "ACTUAL" balance versus "AVAILABLE" balance and the online accounting system. On the 22nd of December I "show" a balance of $XX.XX in my account up until my electronic deposit on the 23rd of December. However, I am charged fees because although you reflect $XX.XX, if I click on a link and follow it further you show that you have really taken money out of my account before it actually goes through on the 23rd of December or later. It seems to me that you are charging me overdraft fees for money that you do not actually give to another bank or another account until the following day. Is that legal? Is it legal for you to take $58 from my account before you have even paid for a charge that you are charging me for? The worst part is that my balance online never appears to drop below $50 between the 22nd of December and the 25th of December, but charges seem to appear for something from the 22nd of December. The only way to see the balance of my account is to click on every link down the side of the page, not look at the balance column that is plainly displayed next to the charges column. Shouldn't the balance online clearly reflect the actual amount in my account, not a "FAKE" balance... and upon clicking on links and further inspection finally showing an "ACTUAL (according to you)" balance? This seems to be a VERY deceptive practice, and then when I call the person who helps me on the phone has a tone of condescension as if I should have known that the $XX.XX wasn't really available. She was very hostile in tone until the very end when she gave the obligatory "Thank you for contacting US Bank blah blah blah...". I have no problem with you telling me that I have $2 in my account if a charge is pending so that I am forewarned that I really only have $2 because you have "placed a hold" on money that has not cleared yet... but I do have a problem with you telling me I have $50 and really meaning I have $2 if I only look by going online, clicking every link and seeing how your ledger matches with the ledger that you display for me, which is completely different in some cases. I am considering pulling all of our accounts from USBANK and going to another, more honest, bank or credit union. JWB

US Bank Steals money! Watch out for the robber barons at US Bank. The kings of incompetence have come up with a scheme like no other:

1. Purchases made on your US bank debit card are not automatically taken from your account so according to the local branch manager you can charge or take money out of an ATM up to $400 over what you have in the account. (They will gladly take the $30 per occurance charge).
2. When multiple items come in they clear largest to smallest that way you have a greater chance of overdraft. I had two bankcard charges of $8 and 17 dollars they should have come out of the account but no they wait until that evening a $60 check came in and since my deposit of that day did not post (they hold those in search of more bounce fees) the check came up insufficient and the two smaller items that would have cleared brought in another $60 in overdraft fees for the thieves of USBank.
3. Saturday my wife went to the local branch to see if we could recover any of these ill gotten fees she had to wait behind two other suckers...er customers of USBank thievery. One woman had lost $300 to this bunch and the branch manager had the audacity to ask the crying woman if she was going shopping that day! Anyways my wife asked how much money needed to be deposited to bring the account even we were told $138.00 so she deposited a check and that should have been that. Noooo not at USBank they called after the lobby closed to let us know we would probably be hit with a $7 negative balance fee because only the first $100 would be credited to the account they take longer to credit checks so that would leave the negative $38add a negative $7!
Needless to say I will be filing a complaint with the comptroller of the currency these people need to be stopped! D

I had three years left to pay on a fifteen year loan. It was originally a Metropolitan Federal loan that US Bank acquired. The loan was on a Winnebago Adventurer 34 foot Class A Motorhome. The balance of the loan was $12,000. The Motorhome was worth roughly $40,000. One day a towing company showed up to repossess it. I called the bank and inquired as to the reason. I was not behind on my payments. They told me I could recover it for a payment after it was impounded. I argued with the lady with US Bank, stating that I would have to pay impound fees. She said that was my problem. Once it was impounded, they refused to release it to me and they said I needed to pay the entire balance or it would be sold. I did not have access to $12,000 and subsequently lost it. The attorney generals' office inquired on my behalf and US Bank would not comment on the incident. I am out $28,000 and a Motorhome that I struggled 12 years to make payments on. It was in mint condition and had very low miles on it, in fact, it hadn't been used the last 7 years. US Bank made a hefty profit which they were not obligated to disclose to me, and they haven't. My only option seems to be to hire an attorney. I don't have the resources to do that. I would advise any US Bank employees to seek employment elsewhere. I would not feel safe working in a bank that raped the public in such a blatant manner. What goes around comes around. JC

I would go to the sight www. pro bono lawyers resources and fill out your problem. Some one in business law will help you according to what you can afford-in my case its$ O. Your story is heartfelt-j

US Bank is fraudulent. This letter is regarding the bounced check transaction and our unfortunate experience with one of the branches of US Bank in Lawrence, Kansas. The last two weeks had been very stressful for me. We were very hopeful that the Bank will give us a chance to re-trust for future dealings, but they completely ignored our complaint. We do know that the bounced/returned check is completely our responsibility as the account holders if at all my Husband was not misled to believe by US Bank teller supervisor that the funds $5000.00 will be available within 24 hours from out of $8550.00 check that he deposited. My husband specifically asked the lady teller twice that the funds should come out of the check and not out of our own account and further an offer for sending the check for collection was not at all made by the lady teller. She gave a notice of hold and told to withdraw the money next day not mentioning that actual check would be present to the M & T Bank later. Trusting what was told by the lady teller very next day my husband withdrew $3700.00 out of it assuming that partial funds are available out of the check. Later the check returned and we are charged for that money. We ask you whom should we trust in the Bank and why they misled us on beieving on availability of money which was not from the check????? I strongly believe that US Bank owes me the compensation for the loss, as all my further dealings were after what the Bank made us to believe irrespective of who the individual was. I am sorry to say this but we feel embittered and cheated by the Bank. Why should we suffer the loss because of the Banks mistake. It may not affect US Bank business but this loss has greatly affected our lives in monetary terms. I have also reporting the case to Business Beaurea here for this unprofessional attitude of the Bank and shrugging off from the responsibility of looking at customers need. SA

Thanks for the info..it was very helpful and I am shocked to see how many people they have screwed up..and chew on peoples hard earned money with big Banners and false 5-star quality. S

Well, here I am joining the ranks! Yep, US Bank has done it once again. They have …so far… Bent me to the tune of $411. I tried to have an unauthorized withdrawal stopped on my account. I gave US Bank ample time to stop it before this company pulled the money from my account. All US Bank told me was that if I didn’t know how much they were going to steal from me, they couldn’t stop it. HA!! I was told to wait and then I could have it removed. On the DAY the amount was removed, I had another bill I had to pay and HELLO!!! It’s Christmas So I had to pull out money for Presents for my husband and my son, I was down to $50 in my account. I checked my account the next day and the withdrawal had been made on my account. They pulled out $211.06 and US Bank let them overdraw my account AS A “COURTESY” TO ME! Then in what US Bank must also view as a courtesy THEY pull out $200 in OverDraft charges! Thanks US BANK! Then as if they weren’t wonderful enough, I and a friend of mine, who had worked for banks for 20 years, called the Corporate offices and the Regional VP and we got, “Oh, I am sorry that was a Paper charge and not an ACH debit. We can’t reverse that.”, “It’s already been withdrawn. We can’t take it back.”, “No ma’am, if it had been $2000 we would not have withdrawn it because that would be over your alotted amount, but as a courtesy to you we allowed them to withdraw (Screw you for) the amount.” I have shut down my account. US Bank is supposedly working on a review to see if the charges were authorized (Though I informed them that they were not) and this will take a minimum of 45 days. However, the company who pulled out MY money from US bank was a large company (with a lot of money which makes them right) and I have only banked with US Bank for 5 years (Which makes me stupid) which counts for nothing. They have no customer loyalty and they only hold your money so they may hand it out as THEY see fit. TH

I work there. USBank is charging a $15 to make payments by phone on their WorldPerks(and other) credit cards. It is free to use the web page or automated system, but when we set a customer up the first time we are not supposed to tell them it is free. It used to be free to set up and make the first payment and we told customers in future is fee for a rep, but always free automated. As of last week we have a scripted thing to say we can now take their pymnt for a $15 fee when we set them up-and not to suggest to transfer them to auto system unless they ask. We will be docked points if heard not scripting. Also foreign speaking, elderly or out of country callers will not get a free payment as before. How can a hard of hearing or stuttering person use a voice automated system? Part of the script makes it seem if they do not pay us to take the pymnt it may not be processed the same day. I realize it is a business, but this is greedy and dishonest. We feel upset, but dare not speak out. Anon

On Saturday, October 9, 2004, I deposited a $280 business check at a branch in Dayton, Ohio before 2PM at a grocery store location. As of yesterday, I have been hit with $204 in $34.00 insufficient funds charges! I was so shocked to learn that they only allowed $100 to be used, while giving me the bad end of the stick. I called the 800 number and went to the branch where the female bank manager told me these words: " Well, it wouldn't be fair to the other branch manager for me to refund all of your money because I will be leaving soon and I don't want it ( my #$$^%^ money, that is) to hurt my numbers and I am sure he doesn't want it to hurt his." Now how do you like that crap? We have to do something about this bank. Some years ago I think NCNB was in trouble about holding certain checks that came through to hit customer's accounts for more check charges and this is the game with US BANK... and you mean they could not help me once? The managers got together and told me that I would be credited a mere $68.00 of MY MONEY while they profit the REST????? I don 't think so! FC

Something needs to be done about US Bank. US Bank sucks and is one of the worst banks for customer service. KK

Hate US Bank I just found that US bank is hitting me with over $300 in overdraft fees for check card authorizations that were NOT posted to my account yet. I have some 20 grand in a home equity loan also with US bank that could have been moved to cover these charges however they are saying although the money was not moved out of my account they stll have the right to act as if it were an overdraft although no money was paid out. I called other banks who said this can be done but they don't follow this practice as they consider it unethical. I am now changing banks.thanks PL

usbank mistake denied. 3 months ago I excitedly got a $200.00 saving act and my automatic ss in my checking act. At that time they carefully helped me to go home and set up internet bill paying for the first time. I very carefully paid 3 bills. In 1 week I tried to use my debit card and it was denied. I called the bank and they found a fourth entry. bill #1 amount was double payed to bill number three. In that 1 week I lost all my checking, all my savings with bank fees that shouldn't have occured and the double bill paid, paid another month in advance and I am left with no money til the 3rd. I am out of necessities, including food and I didn't do it. They denied it and blocked me from going back into the page where I paid the 3 bills. I am suffering a migrane as a result of devistation of loosing everything. I told my true complaint-there is another chapter-in addition to loosing all my savings ,the bank has now charged me $268.00 in fees- I wonder if I will have any $ left in september for current bills or to live. JT

US Bank is a bank that should be shut down, closed down, and ousted from the American Banking System. They are a disgrace to legitimate banking institutions across America. How dare Grundhofer call his bank "US BANK". Obviously he doesn't know or care what United States stands for. Disgruntled former customer, LL

I have a client who got behind with her Firstar (now US Bank) credit card. Not to worry—she did a refi and paid it in full. The credit report shows it. The closing statement on the refi shows it. US Bank admits it. But US Bank turned it over to MRS, a collection company. Now the lady is being harassed (4 years later) for a $2700 balance due. In fact, last month it was $3400. We can’t get US bank to call off the dogs. DK

Only Stupid or Lazy people do business with US Bank, home of the Five Star Screw. SM

US Bank is a the worst bank I have ever did business. My wife and I opened an account with them a month and 1/2 ago and were still waiting for our ATM bank cards. The branch manager was useless, kept telling me the cards were coming and the district manager Julie Hilt, never returned my calls to discuss the problem!!! I then opened a new account-got ATM cards within a week- with a new bank and transferred our money. When we closed the account at US Bank, they charged us a $25.00 fee!!! I am so disgusted with them. Do you who I can complain to regarding this matter? I thought about contacting the Banking Commission. 5 Star Service. What a joke. EE

US Bank has raked me over the coals with the “available balance” overdraft fee scam and I’m ticked. I could post the details but it sounds like a story often told already.I’ve seen a lot of references to doing something serious about this issue but can find no info where people actually ARE doing something. If you know of a real class action suit pending or in progress against US Bank for overdraft charges, please let me know. D

I too have been raked over the coals. I am looking for a Class Action against USBANK. I recently requested a record for all overdraft charges I have paid since I opened the account a few years ago. I was told they cant give me that info but If I would like I can pay $6.00 for each statement.I went back and in the last 3 months I have paid over $1000 in overdrafts. I think it is illegal -because they are processing the checks in order of HIGHEST TO LOWEST AMOUNT. This way they can charge more overdraft charges. I AM SICK OF IT.

Does your bank hold your paycheck until 5pm the following business day? Today I'd like to tell you about US Bank, who suck. I deposited my wimpy hotel paycheck and the bank only made $100 available. The next day a check came in for more than was available (but much less than I had deposited) and the bank charged my account $33. Two more checks came in and they charged $33 each. Then my paycheck "cleared," but after the $99 charges there wasn't enough to cover my rent check, so they charged me another $33, plus $29 more for good measure. Then they charged my account $5 for every day it was in the red. Balance by Wednesday after the Friday I deposited my check: something like ($189). The thing is, I keep my check register in MS Money (or did, back when I had an account) and I would balance it on the internet. Who doesn't? And if I don't suspect anything weird is happening over there at the local US Bank, I only log in every couple days. When I caught wind of their tricky accounting, though, I went in and explained what happened. I talked to three people and finally to James, their jagoff manager. I told him that there was no reason for holding my paycheck, that I'm the "little guy" and all, sure, but what's the deal? If they doubted the check was good they ought to go across the street to Bank One and ask them about it. James said he wouldn't do anything for me because it's their policy to hold checks. I said that's nuts, that he should know that the Marcus Corporation--who franchise my Hilton and are one of Milwaukee's biggest companies--isn't going to bounce a piddly little check like mine. I said no bank I've ever used held local payroll, especially ones written from mammoth banks like Bank One. He told me it's standard practice for most banks. So I asked around. No one else's bank does that. TCF? Nope. Bank One? Nope. Kankakee Federal? No. UW-CU? No. Wells Fargo? No. No no no, James, you liar, you cold-hearted liar. So I walked out and never went back. I had spent an hour trying to get him to see my point. I was the nicest and the most belligerent I've ever been. I'm usually pretty non-confrontational, but this time I had justice on my side. Blah blah blah. I thought about paying them and then smashing their window. At least then I'd get something for my money. Instead I just never went back. Eventually the fees went up to almost $400-below-zero, and then my account really froze. I tried to get in at Bank One. They've got a really nice package for Hilton employees. Free checks, free online banking, early direct deposit. Why not? They write the checks; the money is virtual. But NOOO! US Bank has me blacklisted. They screwed me outta my scratch, they screwed me outta my account, then they screwed me from opening anything else. I even tried one of them online thingamajigs. Well . . . Friday I'm going to be getting some mad scrilla for all the overtime I've worked lately, and you know somebody, somewhere, is going to want it. One thing's for sure: I'm gonna make 'em beg for it.A

Comments : I was wondering if I could get everyone who had a complaint against US Bank to send me a copy of the last 90 days of their over the limit fees or other extra charges. I am starting research on overdraft fees. I was screwed several times by US Bank and so was my sister. So I figured this was a good place to start. I am a social work student. I would like to figure out on average how much money a bank receives a year from NSF charges. My guess is that it is quite a bit. My guess also is that most of those charges are to people with an income less then 40,000 dollars. So I would really like to start gathering information. Of course no one's names would ever be used. But I may eventually need proof if I get people to actually listen to my statistics. Please let me know if you can help me get this information. I called US Bank myself and asked them to give me my information for the last year. They told me I would have to pay something like 6 dollars a page after the last 90 days. That is why I am asking for the last 90 days because they are free. Then in 90 days from now I can get the next 90 days. See what I mean. I really think I can make a difference in the way banks operate if I go to the press after I gather my information. Please help me do this. Thank you, Vicki letstalkmvp@aol.com

They have ripped off my church and my 88 year old Mother. My name is Harvey Beagle, who for many years have directed the Federation of Independent Catholic and Orthodox Bishops. I'm a retired Monsignor of the Old Catholic Church. In a recent development upon my personal complaints and the total rip off of this money laundering service that calls itself a bank, I have petitioned the respected Archbishops who make up the membership and a press release will go out shortly that within 60 days, all Catholic and Orthodox employees of the U. S. Bank will be excommunicated from the Church of Christ, and any member who has either a checking account, loan, stock option or stock has 30 days to divest themselves of such or face refusal of communion, confession or any sacraments of the One Holy Catholic and Orthodox Church. Enough is enough. You folks have for years tried to get them to change their ways for nothing. Now the Church will deal with them as a Church should. After all, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever had." --Margaret Mead Church records are now computerized, so we will be able to target each employee in each jurisdiction or diocese. To the "lay folks", we will leave it to their conscience. Harvey Beagle, semi retired monsignor Old Catholic Church of Antioch. Ambassador to the United Nations for the One Holy Church of Antioch, Canadian Jurisdiction.

I placed a stop payment on a check in December of 2002. Why? Because I had purchased 2 used appliances. Then the appliance dealer called and said he lost the check I paid him with. I called US Bank and requested assistance. Was told to stop pay on 'lost' check for fee of $29. I authorized stop payment; issued new check to appliance dealer for original amount LESS the fee; new check is cashed. I received stop payment confirmation noting expiration date of 103/06/08. ??? All is well until ALMOST one year later - in December of 2003 I open statement to find that the LOST check (that I issued stop payment on) was cashed in mid November - the LOST check is now 11 months and 1 week old. Call bank -- and am told that stop payment is only good for 6 months - and they (US BANK) MAY cash a 'stale dated' check for up to one year. They inform I should have reissued a stop payment AGAIN - to cover the full year in which they MAY pay the check. US BANK agrees that the check is stale dated after 6 months - BUT they MAY cash it for up to one full year. Yes I realize I was scammed by the appliance dealer! I have filed the appropriate papers with law enforcement - I have argued this point on the phone and in writing with US BANK. The paid check utilized my over draft reserve - so interest is added - just to add insult to injury! US BANK has also sent their (never seen before) version of the stop payment confirmation (with a clear expiration date), stating that the copy I am in possession of is a computer tear off for use by bank employees BUT I was also sent a letter with a readable date. Over 4 months its clear that US BANK is standing behind this NEW confirmation letter - on the grounds that they MAY pay a check for up to one year -- AHHHHHHHHHHHH! TC

I wouldn't count on the OCC or Congress to be of much help. The OCC has imposed certain non-consumer friendly rules of late that indicate that they are friends of the banks, not consumers. As for Congress, they get too much in the way of campaign contributions from large banks. Late last year they passed FACTA which had a clause in it forbiding the states from imposing stronger privacy protections for lenders than federal regulations imposed. They then imposed a very weak standard for affiliate sharing - esentially giving consumers no protection at all. If you want more info, check out my site at: Guard My Credit File

A short time ago I became aware of a number of serious allegations made against US Bank. I then searched the internet for as much information as was available on US Bank. I was appalled to find multiple complaints ranging from the minor to a disturbing incident in which the bank mishandled a customers account by giving the funds of said account to an unauthorized party ( essentially abetting in a theft ), and then instead of acknowledging their mistake tried to cover it up. This is a major national bank. One would think his/her money to be safe. Is it? If not, as seems to be the case then the prudent course of action is to close all accounts with this institution and place your money in a bank that really does value their customers, appreciates their business and is willing to give a little 5 Star Service. For what its worth my money is no longer at US Bank. S3D

It seems to me that US Bank has to know what they are doing. If not, then they are just....what? I believe this company is unethical. LB

My husband and I are recent newlyweds. We needed to open up a new bank account together and decided to try US Bank. We deposited right off the bat about $1000 in checks- ALL wedding gifts! As soon as we recieved our bank checks, we began to pay bills. Within our first week there, we were charged over $200 in overdraft fees just because the bank decided not to acknowledge our deposits. We called, and a customer service rep rudely explained that we had to wait 5-7 business days for all deposits to clear before we could use them! No one had told us this when we signed up! Then I asked her why our online banking statement said the money was available. Then she replied that I "need to invest in some online tutoring." !!! My husband is a computer technician! I think we can use a computer... I called the bank manager of the bank we'd gone into, she basically looked over our acount and called us liars, saying that we had been told about the holding of checks for 5-7 business days. That was lovely. Since then, we have forked over several hundred dollars and as soon as all our uncleared checks clear, we're marching in there to close our account and tell them what a pathetic business they're running. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK!!! I have belonged to 3 other banks in my lifetime, and this is by far the most disappointing and cheating bank we could have ever imagined. Avoid this bank at all costs. You will find yourselves very in debt because of them.

Well, after having overdraft charges posted to our account because deposits don't post for 24 or more hours, We're just about at the end of our rope. Here's the latest. We deposited a disibility check into an ATM at Carson City Nevada US Bank for 116.00. It's like the only money we had. (My wife has done 2 years of chemo and side effects, surgeries, I have a blown disc in my back). I took out 20.00 after the ATM deposit to pay a bill. The wind blew the reciepts out of the machine, and as I ran (walked) to get them, I forgot to grab the card. I then went back to the machine, and another reciept was there saying I took out another 40.00! There was no money in the dispenser! We were parked 15 feet away and observed the machine at all times. The next day at the "5" star service bank with 1 teller and a huge line of customers, I finally talked to a teller. The office and/or front management people never talk to you, you must see a teller they say. I explained the trouble, and watched as their computers crashed. "Go call the 800 number". We did. They said it will take 90(!!!) days to look into it!! In the mean time, they hit us with 2 - 32.00 overdraft charges, which never would have happened if the ATM didn't screw up! And that will take 90 days too, to sort out!! Our long distance phone service has been suspended, and our cable TV is next to go, 64.00 in extra charges, and 40.00 less on top of that!! All I've gotton from US Bank is a 5 Star ***%!^$!!!!!! I'm calling the Fed's!

I recently sent in a payment to pay off a lease and purchase a car I got through US Bank. US Bank applied the check to normal monthly payments. Who in their right mind would apply $21,000+ dollars to a payment? I cannot get any information over the phone. They would not even tell me what I owe. They must not want their money. I was told that I was a month behind on my payments. I was informed it was for the month of August. When I informed her that I had the check showing it had been endorsed, she then said, will it must have been another month and I don't have time to look it up. She transferred me to accounts. I was then told we were paid up and every payment was paid on time. Accounting did state that collections showed we owed a month and she would contact them to get it corrected! US Bank has the worst customer service I have EVER encountered. I will never go back to US Bank for anything!

I used to work for US Bank when it went thru the merger with Firstar. I can tell you just from being an employee and also a user of usbank, cuz it's free for me, I still have problems with them. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. D

I'm dealing with a situation now where I opened a savings account on line, and set it up as overdraft protection for my checking account. The customer service is nonexistent and I will be moving all my accounts.

Is it me or US Bank keeps delaying everyone's mortgage check to assess more interest??? It has happened to me every month, they take at least two more days than everyone else to cash the check which cost me $20 in interest. NA

Trying to get my safe deposit box, or even get simple, short questions answered at US Bank is ridiculous. They make you sign up just to get in to the box area, and one has to wait while others open accounts etc. taking up the receptionist/server person's time. This past week there wasn't even a sign-up sheet, and the gal behind the desk just ignored me standing at the desk while she helped someone open an account. I can't stand banks that can't even hire people to simply be receptionist, answer questions that take very little time. Also, on a Friday afternoon, only 2 drive-in lanes were open, one of which is supposedly for business customers, I got in line. But, eventually pulled out of line because the customer ahead was just sitting there doing nothing. So, I left without getting any service (not the 1st time) and went to the credit union down the road where the receptionist area clearly labled Help/Advice, and I got immediate attention. They told me they try to be more hands-on than their competition. It was exactly what I was seeking. Disgruntled customer

Good old USBank. There is not much oversight. Banks like this will continue largely unregulated and able to pull the crap they do! Get out of national banks! LD

US Bancorp transaction not made - I received a charge on my credit card for services not ordered or received. I wrote several letters to the president of the bank. Nobody would remove the charges from my account.

US Bank is processing mortgage payments incorrectly and unethically. My payments have never been late. The first 1 1/2 years I also made additional principle payments. Going through an amortization table I have, for over 6 months, my statement has not matched up with anything sent from the bank. When I call the bank for an explanation, I get some weird story. EA

Screwed by US Bank? FIGHT BACK against Grundhofer's evil banking empire! Here's how: First, write up your story or complaint, and save it to your computer. You will cut and paste it in all the steps described below. Take your time and write up a brief and clear story; spelling and grammar do count if you want to be taken seriously. Useful links can be found in the "Got a Beef with US Bank - Fight Back" section of our web site,US Bank 5 Star Screwed

STEP 1: Send a copy of your complaint to the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). Don't expect them to do much, but it will make your complaint public record.

STEP 2: Send a copy of your complaint to your state's Attorney General's office. Even if they don't have jurisdiction, it will again make your complaint public record. AGs do have jurisdiction over consumer fraud, such as improperly adding fees to lease agreements or changing loan/lease documents after they are signed.

STEP 3: If US Bank didn't live up to their "five star service guarantee" in your situation (didn't compensate you fully for your inconvenience), send your story to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), with a complaint of false advertising.

STEP 4: Consider posting your complaint on the USB Message Board. Also post your complaint on internet consumer complaint sites, such as rateitall.com, complaints.com, planet feedback, etc (links are available on our web site). The more exposure, the better.

STEP 5: Send your story to your local and/or regional news media outlets (newspapers; TV). US Bank hates negative publicity. A media story might even encourage them to resolve your problem.

STEP 6: Consider posting your own web site. There are lots of free hosts (angelfire.com; groups.msn.com; geocities.com) available, and you don't even need to know html. Post your story, and be sure to include links to major US Bank web sites like http://www.usbank-5starscrewed.0catch.com and http://groups.msn.com/USBankComplaints/ (the more interlinked web sites there are out there, the more pressure that is put on US Bank).

STEP 7: File your story with the class action referral service,http://www.bigclassaction.com/financial.html and a class action law firm collecting consumer complaints for a possible lawsuit filing (http://membrane.com/lawtomation/dmlaw/new_cases.html)

Finally, if all else fails, consider legal action. Lots of people have sued US Bank and won. For smaller amounts of money, consider small claims court (you can sue for usually less than $100). For bigger cases, take your story to some attorneys for evaluation. Look for an attorney who will take your case on a contingency basis (as in, they get paid only if they win). US Bank will be much more likely to not play legal games, and to consider settling, if they know they can't break your pocketbook. Don't get mad; Get EVEN!

These are abuses specifically allowed by the US Congress (in the early and mid-1990s), in response to intense lobbying by the financial industry. There is no real way for consumers to fight back against these abuses now - most state-level authority was abolished by Congress, and the OCC is a complete joke when it comes to consumer protection. Some of the problems and abuses include: the way checks and deposits are processed to maximize overdraft (and fee) potential; the credit card universal default; the allowance of usurious "penalty" interest rates; representing credit card rates as "fixed" when they really are not; the collection of penalty fees that are substantially above actual costs to the bank/cc company; allowing credit card rates to change on existing balances (a breach of contract); allowing banks/cc companies to unilaterally change the terms of the service agreement (an invalid contract); the absense of a strong federal-level consumer protection agency for banking and credit card issues; the continued allowing of holds on consumer deposits, while banks get their funds (Check21) almost instantly; the concept of a strict 25 - 29 day consumer payment due date, when banks rarely pay their bills (to consumers, vendors, contractors) in less than 60 days (usually more like 90+ days)
