How Yahoo killed the Webring

Yahoo bought and took over webring.org. The execution of this was a Charlie Fox of Epic Proportions.

Here is short list of things broken posted to UseNET.

  2. Ringmasters can not edit description...
  3. Ringmasters should approve/deny before seeing code in target page...
  4. Join no longer goes to ringmaster ring info/join page... indeed goes to webring@yahoo
  5. No link is provided to ring-master/ring homepage
  6. All ring logo and banners should be redesigned to fit yahoo 50*50 pixel description (or accept it displayed streched ugly. )
  7. New server side java script code fragment is deleted by web sites who use "safe html" tm... no alternative code provided.
  8. You can no longer get ring members mail list: You are forced to use yahoo mail to -all- members feature...
  9. Some of website descriptions are appearing on wrong url's... database disintegrating?
  10. Assoication with yahoo id is implemented but no disassociation is provided...
  11. stats do not work...
  12. management slow...when functioning
  13. Get "ringmember password" erronessly goes to get "ring owner" pw. (members can not get pw'ds)
  14. feedback does not work at all...actually, just slow and not reliably, kinda like the Webring under yahoo...

Here is the latest folly from the Yahoo twits mismanaging webring
To add a site, you have to break the ring!
Yahoo uses never completely cursed java scripts for their idiot navbars. You can define it like real ring code, they have to generate it.
The webmaster can't obtain it. It's mailed directly from yahoo to the new member, after the ringmaster approves a site!
That's right, in order to get the navbar code, the ringmaster has to approve the site with no navbar!
For those who haven't caught on yet, that causes a break in the ring.

If you have a serious problem with the Server Side Java crap...here is some real HTML code. This is the second round of serverside script for this site, in this ring. The first set stopped working for some unexplained, unannounced reason. The new set has a different ID code.
