My Alaska Journey
When teaching in the Alaska Moravian Seminary was first mentioned, it seemed but a remote and distant possibility.  While I enjoy teaching, it is not my passion.  And teaching Yup'ik Eskimo's?  I hadn't a clue!  Yet as we know, God works in mysterious ways...

The foremost desire of my life is to be at the center of God's will.  Too often I fail.  It is very easy to put my desires before the heart of God.  I keep learning and relearning that ultimately God's will for our lives is the only way we can live and know fulfillment.

I accepted this call to provincial service with deeply conflicting feelings.  Leaving home and family for almost four months is not only a sacrifice for me, but a huge sacrifice for them.  However, I sensed that God was opening this door for a reason.  I suspected that the reason had more to do with what God would teach me than with what I would teach my students.

Still early in my tenure, I can already discern God's presence guiding me into a new place in my life.  Outside the realm of the familiar, God is opening the world of new possibilities, new understandings, and renewed commitment.  Without a doubt I will be able to look back upon this time and affirm with God that it was the right place at the right time.

I am not sharing my experience with you because of anything innately interesting about me.  Rather, my hope is that we may all see God's hand working in a way that becomes meaningful in our own journeys.  It is with that hope that I invite you to come along to Alaska with me!
