Noah Russel's Homebirth Pictures
Midwife Sonya checking to see what the progress is after I announced his head was coming out.. nothing like a little warning eh?
*** Warning: Graphic!!! ***
Midwife Sonya reaching in to 'catch' Noah as I finished pushing him out.
And he's out! As you notice there is dark water following him out, this is mostly the amniotic fluid as he was born 'in the caul' and had passed meconium. Passing meconium is very normal for post-dates babies and NOT a sign of distress as it would be in a pre-term or term baby. It simply signifies that their bowels are now working fully.
Midwife Sonya wraps Noah in a warm towel to keep him from getting too cold. UNBELIEVABLY long cord he had!
Me taking a breather after he was born, James was telling me how proud he was of me. :)
Time for me to turn over and be able to hold Noah!!!
The feelings you have when you hold your baby for the first time.. UNBEATABLE! Crying, happy, grateful, relieved, ecstatic.. it's true what they say, I want ALL my emotions!
Before your eyes flashes every moment that brought you to here. The unity in lovemaking at conception, the worries and fears of early pregnancy, the struggles to make a home for the next several months, the discomforts and aches of late pregnancy, the previous hours in pain and anxiety, they're all conglomorated into this awesome experience called BIRTH and they're all SO worth it!
There is no more unifying an experience than being a family in birth.
It's hard to believe that this perfect little creature is who you've awaited for so long. Almost like a dream.
You strain to hear everything, you touch all over to make sure it's real, a part of you fears if you don't you might wake up and it all have been a dream.
