 Milton 4 Brantford 3

Game # 4975 played on June 7, 2000 at Milton Ontario.
Report #1 by G. Szoke

In their season opener Brant Stereo boys came up short by one goal Wednesday night losing to Milton 4-3.
Brant Stereo had many opportunities to take control of the game early in the first half but failed to finish their plays. Brendon Ulysse set up plays destined for the net but the scoring attempts went wide. After being down two goals, a corner from Rory McDonnell was headed by Carl Stalhbrand, just before the half ended, to give Brant Stereo their first goal.
Brantford started again with a strong second half with McDonnell creating a breakaway through the middle and scoring. His second goal came from an assist from Jamie Szoke to tie the game at 3 apiece.
Brant Stereo’s defense was lead by Mike Ion who made great distance with many of his clears. Nick Kellner made some smothering tackles and Adam Zareski played well in center midfield.
Late in the 2nd half with the scored still tied, goal keeper Will Pugsley stopped two shots during a breakaway to keep Brantford’s hopes alive. With only minutes left to go, Milton, relentless with its offensive surges found an opening and scored to take the game 4-3.

BRANTFORD 5 ORANGEVILLE O

Game #49 84 played  at Orangeville, Ontario.
Report #3 by T. Ion

In their third game of the season, Brant Stereo players exhibited their fine skills of offensive and defensive play, which resulted in their first victory.

During the first half, the boys dribbled the ball carefully and executed some skilful passes. Finally, on a pass by Kris Harrison, Jake Rosenau scored the first goal. During the second half the offense lines sharpened their attack and Mike Ion, Carl Stahlbrand, Rory McDonell and Kris Harrison scored goals. Any Orangeville attempt to move the ball up the field was thwarted by Nick Kellner, James Ferguson and Casey O’Neill. Will Pugsley was awesome in goal!

Charles Vickers, Dylan Vickers and Brendon Ulysse are to be commended for their persistent digging out of the ball and booting it up the field. Our offensive players Taylor Smith and Jamie Szoke and our stopper Adam Zareski succeeded in keeping the ball up in our opponents’ end of the field.
Congratulations on a fine team effort!

Brantford  1 Oakville 3

Game # 5006 played at Bronte. Report # 8 by Carla Vickers

The Brant Stereo team travelled to Oakville to avenge an earlier loss in the season. The teams met at Bronte Park in Oakville under beautiful conditions; unfortunately five players were unavailable for play. The team was bolstered by the inclusion of four U11 Burford team players.  The early play was slightly in Oakville's favour with Brantford having sporadic attacks. With time running out in the first half, Oakville connected on a corner kick and the score at the break was 1 - 0.

In the second half, the play became quite even with many chances at both ends. Keeper Will Pugsley made many excellent saves and the defense with Casey O'Neill, Mitchell Ball, James Ferguson and Nick Kellner kept the Oakville forwards at bay.

Midway through the 2nd half, a chip shot bounced off the Brantford keepers hands and found the net making the score 2 - 0 for Oakville. Brantford quickly responded with a sharp pass from Kris Harrison to Stefan Toic which beat the Oakville netminder along the ground to bring the score to 2 - 1.

The play went back and forth with Brantford pressing to get the equalizer, but late in the game on a slick pass Oakville put in their final goal and the game ended 3 - 1.

East Elgin Tournament

August 12-13 2000

Report by Carla Vickers

The Brantford Brant Stereo U-12 team set out to Aylmer to test their skills against the U-13 players from the London Area.  The team was bolstered once again by some of the U-11 players from Burford.

The first game saw the team play Belmont. The opening goal by Taylor Smith in the first half just inside the box put Brantford up 1 - 0 at the end of the half. Competent midfield play of Carl Stahlbrand., Dylan Vickers, and Brendon Ulysse kept Belmont out of Brantford's half. When they did make it into any space the defense quickly ended the threat, in the second half two goals by David Steele sealed the victory 3 - 0.

The second game saw a very strong North London Lightning team dominate the game to the tune of 7 goals. Late in the second half on a skirmish in front of the London net, David Steele once again potted a goal. The first to be scored on the London team.

The third game brought us into play against the East Elgin home team. The play was back and forth, but greater overall age, 6 or 7 inches in height here or there and just a bit more experience, gave East Elgin a slight advantage. The goaltending of Will Pugsley and the fine defence of James Ferguson, Charles Vickers, Casey O'Neil and Mitchell Ball, kept chances only from afar.

Unfortunately for Brantford, afar was all that the opposition needed as two long high hard shots found their way into the net. We applauded a great team effort.

The boys continued to play hard throughout the second half but couldn't buy a goal. With only one win in three, the tournament ended that day for Brantford.

Lusiadas 3 Brantford 2

Game #5014 played at HAAA. Report # 10 by Carla Vickers

The U-12 Brant Stereo team travelled to Hamilton to play Hamilton Lusiadas  expecting to return to their winning ways. The game started off well with many chances for Brantford just missing the mark, but constant pressure was being applied.

Hamilton did bring the ball towards the Brantford net and in the ensuing play, a penalty shot was awarded to Hamilton which made good on it.

Brantford responded a short time later on a through ball by Carl Stahlbrand to Kris Harrison, who chipped the ball past an onrushing Hamilton goalkeeper and tied the game.

As the first half came to a close, Rory MacDonell pounded two shots just past the second post and Charles Vickers hit the goalpost. Things didn't appear to be going Brantford's way with many questionable calls or non-calls. The first half ended on an even count, 1 - 1.

The second half was more of the same. Many missed calls, but good defensive play by Mike Ion, James Ferguson, Casey O'Neill and Nick Kellner, kept the Hamilton team well away from netminder Will Pugsley

Midway through the second half, on a defensive lapse Hamilton put a very high ball past Pugsley giving Hamilton the lead at 2 - 1. Late in the second half Lusiadas scored a third goal  to extend their lead  3 to1.

Pressure by Taylor Smith, Jake Roseneau, Dylan Vickers and Carl Stahlbrand paid off with a Rory MacDonell's goal. Constant attacks went for naught as more  calls went against the team from Brantford. The whistle ended the game with Brantford on the wrong end of the 3 - 2 score.

 Brantford 4 Stoney Creek 0

Game #5018 played at Lions' Park. Report # 11 by G. Szoke

Brant Stereo on Track in Soccer

Last night at home, Brant Stereo Warehouse ,boys under 12 rep soccer, soundly defeated Stoney Creek 4-0 to keep them in the race for 2nd place.

The first 20 minutes of the game contained only a few scoring opportunites, the best being when Jamie Szoke attempted a redirection in the air only to be foiled by Stoney Creek’s goalkeeper. Their first goal came from Kris Harrison, who made a sliding kick passed the goalkeeper making it 1-0 for Brantford and ending the 1rst half

In the second half Brant Stereo’s second goal was scored by Szoke who received a pass from Taylor Smith through the middle as he slashed through the defense. To make it 3-0 Brantford’s Charles Vickers pushed the ball past 3 Stoney Creek defenders to put the visitors out of the game. Their fourth goal was a blast from center middlefielder, Rory McDonnell, which was partially blocked by the goalkeeper but it was too hot to handle and ended up in the net.

Mike Ion lead the team on the defensive side of the field playing a strong game but James Ferguson, Nicholas Keliner and Casey O’Neill gave goalkeeper Will Pugsley the support he needed in earning the shut-out. Dylan Vickers ,Brendon Ulysse and Smith in middle-field challenged for the ball throughout the game and helped to smother
Stoney Creek’s offense.

Brant Stereo Defeated by Owen Sound

Game #5020 played on Sat., Aug. 26 2000 at Owen Sound
Report # 12 by Gary Szoke

It was a long trip for Brantford's under 12 rep team to Owen Sound and their host didn't give them the welcome they expected. It rained the moment they entered the city limits and from then on the day went downhill. The next clue that the game wasn't going to go their way was that the coach got caught up in some sightseeing (actually just a cartography problem) and unfortunately didn't arrive until after Owen Sound's first goal. Brantford did rally back and had a few scoring opportunities and showed some strong defense but with the final whistle Brant Stereo Warehouse took home a 2-0 loss and some very wet uniforms.

Players of the game offensively were Dylan and Charles Vickers, Rory McDonnell and Jamie Szoke while defensive standouts were James Ferguson, Mike Ion, Nick Kellner and Casey O'Neill.

Will Pugsley put forth a great effort defending the goal line but found that his counterpart at the opposite end of the field had the upperhand on him. Actually he had a huge upper hand as well as two long arms and matching long legs which created a huge problem for the forwards attempting to shoot anything by the Owen Sound Oak Tree. We can wait until September 10th.

Brant Stereo Fights Back for Victory

Game # 5021 played on Wed. Aug. 30, 2000
Report # 13 by G. Szoke

Brant Stereo Warehouse, under 12 boy's rep soccer team, came from behind in the second half in a closely contested game to earn another victory, keeping alive their chances for a possible 2nd place finish before league play ends.

Playing in Cambridge last night, Brantford started slow and fell quickly behind 1-0.

Midway through the first half the team showed some of the tight passing that they've been developing through the year but their one goal was disallowed and a few good chances missed their mark.

The second half was all Brantford's. A corner kick by Rory McDonnell was deflected by Jamie Szoke off the goal post but in the melee that followed, center forward Kris Harrison found an opening for Brantford's first goal. That appeared to be the spark Brantford needed (the TSN turning point) as their passing game came up another level. Not giving Cambridge the opportunity to regroup, Brantford put on the pressure and a pass from Dylan Vickers to Szoke on left forward gave him two shots at the net. With the first being blocked by a Cambridge defender, he picked up his rebound and made no mistake with his second attempt giving Brantford a hard fought 2-1 victory.

Nick Kellner, Casey O'Neill, James Ferguson and Mike Ion played outstanding on defense. Brendon Ulysse, Taylor Smith and Carl Stalhbrand continually attacked the Crambridge defense and Charles Vickers played an outstanding game as goalkeeper with great anticipation and reads on his opponents.
