| When a farrier comes to your barn, here are some tips to keep him happy to work for you: ~Have a dry, well lit, safe area to work in. ~Always be there to hold the horse and bring it in from pasture. ~Be sure the horse is trained and prepared to stand well. ~Brush and clean the horse. ~Shade in the summer, shleter from wind/cold in the winter. ~Always pay on time. ~Two words: FLY SPRAY! ~Have a level place for him to work. ~Shedule regular 6-8 week appointments for your horses unless otherwise discussed. ~Consider that the farrier has had schooling and probably knows better than your horse magazine. Take his opinions and suggestions seriously. |
