Shamanic journeys
Shamanism is a broad term spanning many cultures and centuries. Simply put; a shaman is a healer. She/he is able to journey between realities. The interesting thing is that across these cultures and times, symbols and methods remain similar if not identical.
Shamanism takes a wholistic approach to healing. Illness is viewed as more than just it's physical symptoms. There are several kinds of journeys that may be used to help. Often an illness, spiritual, mental, emotional and/or physical, is seen as having been caused by a 'soul loss'. The shaman is able to 'journey' and bring back this part of the soul, returning it to the client.
Sometimes a journey will be into the body, so to speak, to 'clean out' whatever is causing the problem.
Other journeys may be simply to answer questions or seek guidance, by speaking to spirit guides or ancestors.
