  UNFINISHED / SUSPENDED PROJECTS 1995-PRESENT

Many building projects in Bangkok have been suspended or put on hold in the wake of the economic crisis in the late 1990s. According to a recent property survey, there are over 300 of these projects, here are some of them. Contact us if you have info on other unfinished buildings.


RCK "Twin" tower
An unfinished building on Charoen Krung Road believed to be the smaller twin tower of the 63 storey Royal Chareon Krung (RCK) building. The structural work are complete although the top dome appears missing. The tower is designed by Rangsan Architect.

 


Sathorn Princess
Two 40 storeys condominium towers in Sathorn. Construction halted in the late 1990s.

Chula Hi-Tech Square
C.U. Hi-Tech Square comprised of a 40storey office building with 125,000 sqm of space, and a 39-storey residential condominium with 73,000 sqm. Both buildings would be connected by an atrium. Car parking would be provided underground and in the office tower. The project's gross lettable space totalled 317,000 sqm.

Construction was halted in 1996 at the 13th floor of the two towers. Chulalongkorn University recently proposed to revive the project.


Than Setthakij 2
Located not far behind Shinawatra 3 Tower on Paholyothin Road, this building has 32 storeys and is an extension to the existing Thansetthakij building (lower right), head office of a local newspaper company.

SV Garden
This project is located on Rama 3 Rd, a fast growing area of Bangkok. The SV Garden project comprises of 4 towers ranging between 35 to 43 storeys. Each of the condominium tower has commanding river view and are geared towards upper middleclass buyers. Recent report indicates that the project may be formally revived soon.

Royal Rajadamri
A joint project between Maneeya Group, Srivikorn Group and Rajadamri Land. It was to be a prestigious retail /office/ residential complex located on 6.5 rai of Crown Property Bureau land on Rajadamri Road.

Encompassing 192 condominium units, 22,492 sqm of office space and 121,926 sqm of retail space, and ensnared between the Five Star Grand Hyatt Erawan and Regent Hotels, it would target high-end tourists and business travelers, plus the many day-tourists and shoppers that flock around World Trade Center, Erawan shrine and Peninsula Plaza.

2Bangkok website reports: "it was to be a 50-story residential tower with a 10-story parking garage connected to a 9-story retail-part in front of the building. Presently debt reduction is being negotiated and will hopefully be done by late 2003 and then construction can resume."

There will be a series of walkways linking it to Peninsula Plaza, Gaysorn Plaza, President Tower Arcade, Amarin Plaza, and the future Omni Marcopolo Hotel.
Sales of condominiums has opened since March 1986.

Ratchada Square Towers
Located on Ratchadapisek Road , Huay Kwang. The towers are built up to about 30 floors. The lower podium used to be occupied by Tokyu department store.

Chad Blair sent in an artist impression of what the finished towers would look like. The towers are stepped back at the top and huge telecommunication mast mounted at the side of the building.


JB Place
A 30+ storey tower on Sukhumvit Soi 21 (Asoke Road) opposite Rojana Tower.


RS Thonglo
A 30+ storey tower on Sukhumvit Soi 55.

Piman Condominium
Located next to BTS skytrain station and Sathorn House on North Sathorn Road. Construction of this 40+ storey will resumed in May 2003. This picture was taken in February 2003.


Natural Place Condominiums
Two 30+ storey towers behind Tesco Lotus store off Paholyothin Road. The building was repossessed by the Banks in '98.

Supalai Grand
This project on Rama 3 Rd include a 30 storey condominium tower with an 11 storey car park.


Thew Tower
A luxury condominium project close to Rama 8 Bridgedeveloped by the owner of the private school next door, constructed by Samsung, construction stopped in '98
