| The GT was introduced on June 30, 1986 in the form of a standard-looking Ranger. It had STX trim with a small GT badge in the upper right corner of the tailgate. In 1987, the GT was basically the same as the '86s, with blue added to the exterior paint colors. In 1988 and 1989, the GT was updated with a new look and less than 1000 units were produced each year. The GT came in 2WD with a 2.9L EFI v6 engine, "ground effects"('88 and '89 only), front and rear anti-sway bars, 3.45 or 3.73 or 4.10 limited slip or open rear differential, Marchal fog lights('88 and '89 only), 215/70/14 General XP 2000 tires, and gas charged shocks. Interior colors avaliable were Chestnut, Light Sandlewood, Regatta Blue, and Scarlet Red. Exterior colors avaliable were Deep Shadow Blue Clearcoat, Crystal Blue, Twilight Blue, Dark Chestnut Clearcoat, Silver Clearcoat, Raven Black, Scarlet Red, and Colonial White. Optional equipment included a 4speed automatic transmission, 60/40 split bench seat, tilt steering wheel, anti-lock brakes, super engine cooling(HD radiator and bigger fan), speed control(cruise), power door locks, power windows, anti-theft lug nuts, various pinstriping designs, camper shell package, sliding rear window(3 or 4 piece), short bed(6 ft), "premium sound"(4 speakers with power amplifier), and A/C. Standard equipment included a solid rear window, manual roll-up windows, manual door locks, "captians chairs"(bucket seats with power lumbar support, thigh support, adjustable side bolsters), vent windows, fold away mirrors(flag style), leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth door panels, long bed(7ft), tachometer, cast aluminum wheels, 5speed manual transmission, and power steering. |
