| THE REAL Robert Underwood |
| Robert Underwood claims that in this campaign people are attacking him for being anti-Filipino. The truth is Robert Underwood has attacked Filipinos and others and has never explained his words or apologized for them. In his own words, Robert Underwood called our Filipino community the "Filipino menace." "The refusal of stateside Americans to understand that he is essentially an immigrant complicates the question. He, too, can speak of the Filipino menace to his Chamorro friends and say that the island isn't what it was like 15 years ago." "A Chamorro Challenge to Statesiders" written by Robert Underwood (June 24, 1977) Robert Underwood called Filipinos "imported employees." "Robert A. Underwood, speaking for the Organization of People for Indigenous Rights to the U.N.'s Special Committee on Decolonization, said that with the influx of mainlanders and their imported employees, the Chamorros are in danger of becoming strangers in their own land." Pacific Daily News article (August 7, 1982) In his own words, Robert Underwood said he believes that Filipinos and Asians only come to Guam for money and don't care about what happens to our island community. "Because Filipinos and Asians came to Guam for economic reasons, they have not concerned themselves with Guam's political and social institutions, other than to accede to the institutions' demands. They play out their economic role and only utilize, rather than contribute to, the formulation of the island's non-economic institutions." "A Chamorro Challenge to Statesiders" written by Robert Underwood (June 24, 1977) Robert Underwood compares Filipinos and other non-Chamorro Guamanians to his dog. "Guamanian means anyone who lives in Guam. It gives legitimacy to those who want to deny that they have immigrant status on Guam and allows them to make claims on the island's past and future. If, then, the essence of being "Guamanian" is defined in terms of geography, then it has lost all meaning to me. My dog qualifies to be "Guamanian" under this operational definition." "A Chamorro Challenge to Statesiders" written by Robert Underwood (June 24, 1977) In his own words, Robert Underwood said that Chamorros are in danger of becoming a minority and losing political power because so many Filipinos are coming to Guam. "The Chamorro people still constitute the largest group and generally control the political structure of the Government of Guam. However, based on the rate of Chamorro out-migration and Asian (especially Filipino) in-migration during the past three decades, this will no longer be the case." Chamorro Studies Association speech by Robert Underwood (July 1987) Robert Underwood is blaming others for talking about the hurtful things he said about Filipinos on Guam. But he won't tell us why he said those things or what he meant by them. If you want to be the Governor of all the people of Guam, you have to respect all the people of Guam. The truth is, Robert Underwood has a long history of racist statements particularly targeting the Filipino population. He does not want anyone to know about what he has said. I want you to know the truth. Please contact me at theguamtruth@yahoo.com and I will send you the actual articles so that you can decide for yourselves. He calls Filipinos a "menace" "imported employees" and likens them to his dog yet he now wants to be our Governor? You can' serve just some of our people Mr. Underwood. YOU HAVE TO SERVE ALL OF US NO MATTER WHAT RACE, COLOR, GENDER WE ARE! |
