I needed a fresh approach to teaching and reviewing the Elements of Design. I came across this booklet idea and it was a total success. Each day the students created a design focusing on different elements. When all pages were completed we spent a day marbling paper using 3 different techniques. The following day each student folded their marbled paper around a 4" square of tagboard for the covers. They then folded each page of their booklet.
To fold the pages you first fold each page in 1/2, then in 1/2 again. Open up fully and fold the "tack" fold (diagonally). Now carefully force the outer folds so they are reversed (inside). Your finished page should be square. To assemble, glue all pages so the opening faces the same direction. Set your covers with the decorative side down, on the diamond, corner to corner. Glue a ribbon across both covers, then glue the pages into the book with the openings facing towards the ribbons.
