Anthony Toomey (1746-1797) was probably born in Tralee, Co Kerry, Ireland. He
was Physician General in the Service of the Honourable East India Company on the
Bombay Establishment. He married Martha Cross in Ireland, but by cruel deception
believed her to have died (see Cross) shortly after arriving in India. He died in India,
just a month before returning to Ireland.

His son, whom he had never seen, was Mark Toomey (1769-1832), apprenticed to
the shoe trade, but upon receipt of the benefit of his father's Will, retired at an early
age and spent his inheritance. Mark married Temperence Hoysted in 1799 and had
eleven children of whom a son

Mark (1812-1846), became a solicitor as his father left him nothing to inherit. He
married in 1837, Jane Kelly (1820-1890). Their second son

Mark Anthony Toomey (1844-1901) became a Freemason in Dublin. In 1868 he
married Julia Adelaide Bourne, daughter of Walter Bourne and Louisa Arabella
Minchin. He emigrated to Australia with his wife and children where he joined the
Freemasons. Julia did not like Australia and returned to Ireland with most of the
children. Their daughter Jane Toomey (born 1875-1961) is my grand mother.
