Arado 234, ahead of it's time ....
The Arado 234 was beside the Me 262 the second important jet engined aircraft of the Luftwaffe during ww2.. It was a single seated reconaissance and bomber plane, which - after being airborn, was not to intercept by the allied fighters (oldtimers like P51 or Spitfires - just kidding :o)). The high speed allowed it ,that this aircraft was able to fly it' s missions without any defending weapons. The only weak points were during take off an landing - a subject the allied pilots found out very quickly, that was why f.e. my father has to fly ' protection missions ' for these jets from his base Plantluenne in those days. Interesting to me, these aircraft were based also in my home region now - Muenster /Westfalia, the old airfield is closed, but you can still see the rests of it (now the new german army uses it for training).
I am pretty sure, that these pictures were taken at Burg near Magdeburg during winter 1944/45, but that's not for sure. There is as far as i know only one survining Ar 234 - belonging to the Smithonian (USA), that was also a plane of the KG 76 and the reg was according to that F1 + ..
