2009 WELCOME HOME RUN
MARCH 15th-18th 2009
The 2009 Welcome Home Run was a great success, with the exception of the accident involving Dean Cornett. We were so happy to learn that Dean's injuries were minor and that he will be okay. His bike is being evaluated at Wild West H-D in Lubbock and Karan's H-D Fatboy has been returned to her.
We averaged 80 bikes in the ride with a high number of 106 while riding into Laredo. This includes the local riders.
There are so many people who deserve a special thanks but I cannot go without mentioning the Hudsons, of Fritch, TX. They were kind enough to take Dean and Karan and their dogs back home to Estelline, Tx after Dean was released from the hospital in Aspermont and then met us back in Junction that evening. That was service above and beyond the call. How fortunate we are to be associated with such great people!
Although the entire ride was special, my main highlight was the visit to the Texas Veterans Home in McAllen. I was in awe of the history that we were surrounded by and by the true heros that we met. I went there to thank them for their service and instead they were thanking us for taking the time to come by and visit with them. Personally, I was truly touched by their kindness. We have been asked by the Director of the home to make it a regular stop during our ride. Personally, I would be honored to do so. I hope you would be, too.
Our Road Captain, Max Gunn, and Safety Director Keeton Johnston did an outstanding job, along with the best team of Road Guards anywhere!
And I must say a huge THANK YOU to my wonderful wife, Brenda Jackson, who without her hard work this years' ride would not have happened! Brenda says we set a new record for the number of bikes that rode on the trailer. I believe we have either 10 or 11 during the ride.
We'll be setting the date for the 2010 event soon so check back often. Thank you each and every one for your participation. You are all truly wonderful friends.
Yours truly,
Brent Jackson
