| Books are written to be read, but publishers have learned, that books which would otherwise be passed over, will often attract readers if they are illustrated. Hence illustrations have been used over the years to adorn covers, as frontispieces, on endpapers and within the text of books. Many illustrations have been simple line drawings, attractive enough if well done, but others have been the work of fine artists, and their beauty not only enticed readers and increased book sales, but has also made these books highly collectible today for their art as much as for their text. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
