THE SCOTCH GUY
By: Simon Pia - The Scotsman Diary
NO, not another man in a kilt wowing the world and showing Hollywood how it should be done? Yup, sure enough and the Diary's man in America, Kenny Rae, calls in.
"Forget Tom Cruise. I see he's been schmoozing over in Britain this week for the premiere of Mission Impossible 2 with all the big hitters like Kylie Minogue. But let me tell you, boy, Dougray Scott steals the show in MI-2.
"I was at a preview here and everyone was talking about the 'Scotch' guy. Any relation to Sean Connery? I'm afraid I have to admit I'd never heard of Dougray, but a quick deek at the Hollywood artistes website filled me in. Variety must have checked up as well because he's billed as 'real name Stevie Scott'. It goes on to say: 'Stevie hails from the post industrial wastelands of Fifeshire (sic) in Scotland, a small town called Glenrothes.'"
"His dad was a pro soccer player with the Queens Park, but Stevie's ambition was to play for home town club the Hibernians. He didn't make it so he turned to acting'."
We confirmed to Kenny that the information is basically correct. Stephen "Dougray" Scott is indeed from Glenrothes and a Hibbie. The man with "dark brooding, Antonio Banderas looks" the epitome of cool, also takes after his father in more ways than one. As well as a being a footballer, he sold fridges.
