Building An Alternative
to Labour
Report from the Red Green and Radical gathering Wrexham Aug 9th
Around seventy people attended the day long event in Wrexham.
John Marek began the day by arguing for a new organisation in Wales, the
structure of this new organisation was not specified ,only that it should become
a party to represent 'centre left politics' as that ground had now been totally
abandoned by Labour who now occupy the centre right.
Tommy Sheridan from the Scottish Socialist Party endorsed the call to create a
serious opposition to Labour in Wales, he later sited John Marek as a figure
head to build around. Bob Crowe from the RMT sent a message of support to the
conference and offered support for a future organisation
Workshops throughout the day discussed various issues and a plenary touched on
some of the questions raised throughout the day about the nature of any future
organisation.
The Welsh Socialist Alliance believes that an organisation can and should be
built that can unite all socialists around the 80% we all agree with.
We want that organisation to be as big and successful as possible and hope that
we can work with John Marek and his supporters to this end.
We look forward to hearing more from John Marek.
