| CSSA Saskatchewan Director Karin Stever | |||||||||||||||||
| Currently I am the representative for the Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Association as Director for Saskatchewan. (CSSA) I have held this position since 2003. My husband and I have retired from the paying workforce and we divide our time between church and our dogs, with a little gardening and traveling. Our two sheltie socializers are all grown up now and enjoy rewarding careers. In 1983 I was smitten with our first sheltie, Shane. Bought just for loving, Shane satisfied my every need. In true sheltie fashion, I became addicted to this wonderful breed and deceided to establish my own breeding program with my husband Al under the SUMMERLOVE prefix. Together we strive to raise our shelties in a loving and healthy enviroment. The small size of our kennel allows us to ensure that each puppy is properly sozialized. Each puppy, no matter whether destined for the show ring or for a family companion, receives the same loving care. We provide ongoing support to all byers and hope to continue to serve this lovely breed as well as the CSSA. My husband and I have invested 20+ years in the sport of dogs and through the love of our shelties I have experienced many blessings. I belonged to the SASSA Drill Team and the Saskatoon Toonie Drill Team. In 1988 it was a thrill for me when asked to participate with Shane in the all time Super Dogs Dog Show with Herb Williams. In 1992 I was instrumental to the success of the first CSSA National Specialty Show held in Saskatoon. I have also worn many hats in the local sheltie club (SASSA)I participate with our dogs in conformation shows and agility. I enjoy therapy visits to a local nursing home were young puppies experience the joy of the elderly. Our dogs have taught me so much and for that I am truely grateful. I cherish my friends and like to pay tribute to all the judges and handlers, exhibiters and breeders who contribute to my journey - without ever knowing. Knowledge is wasted if not shared. My advise to the novice just starting out in their love affair with this wonderful breed would be that you must have a dream, follow your dream and keep it alive... - Respect the standard as your blueprint - Never stop learning and questioning - Investigate the facts - Look at all sides of an issue - Consider what is reasonable to you - Don't dismiss evidence just because it upsets your beliefs - Make up your own mind - Work towards the improvement of the breed - Have fun along the way Stay true to yourself and - ENJOY THE JOURNEY. |
