The Stony Creek Volunteer Fire Department is located off Interstate 95, in the town of Stony Creek at exits 31 or 33. We serve the town of Stony Creek and a surrounding portion of Sussex County, Virginia. We cover 10 miles of Interstate 95 and a similar distance of the CSX rail system. Our coverage area is approximately 100 square miles and has a population of approximately 1200 people. The community is primarily agricultural based economy, with several industrial type businesses operating here. We operate three pieces of equipment out of one station, a 1997 Pierce Saber pumper, a 1987 Ford/FMC pumper, and a 1987 Pierce mini-pumper. The mini pumper also carries extrication tools and first aid supplies and responds to all motor vehicle accidents. A majority of our approximately 120 calls a year are motor vehicle accidents on Interstate 95. The services we provide include, but are not limited to, fire suppression, vechicle extrication, and basic first aid. The department is all volunteer and has 23 members. Currently there are five EMT-B certified members in the department. We also provide aid to other surrounding departments on an automatic basis.
