About The Stoat

The Stoat :- Mustela erminea. Slim and savage, a fierce predator active both day and night. The stoat is capable of killing prey more than twice its size. It lives alone in rocky crevices and abandoned rabbit holes and can been seen in the vicinity of the many dry stone walls in the Peak District. The stoat is a swift mammal. It is capable of running at speeds up to 20 miles an hour, in bounds of 20 inches, despite being only about 12 inches long from head to tail. It feeds mainly on rabbits, small mammals and birds but will also eat insects. Its hunting ground covers an area of about 50 acres. In winter stoats may turn white or partially white especially in the colder northern latitudes.
