OK The new website is up. Im about 80% happy with it. It needs some tweaking color wise. I also tried to strip it to the basics. Im thinking of getting rid of all the other pages and just have this. May Meeting Log
Attendees:
Andy Friedl
Chuck Nolen
Dave Knutson
Ryan Cooper
- At our May meeting we saw pictures and were regaled with bold tales of Chuck's recent trip to Europe to drink beer, visit family, and drink beer with family he visited. He also shared with us some of the coaster/tapper marker card thingies he got there. Very Cool. Those will be great in my new bar. And every time he referred to a person he met named Nigel, Andy and I nearly had to giggle in fond remembrance of the outrageously funny TV show from England called "The Young Ones". They were so mean to Nigel, especially that bloody mean bastard, Vivian.
- We also discussed/reviewed the club's recent newspaper appearance. Interesting good cop/bad cop angles, and conspiracy theories. Small inaccuracies, but otherwise well done. We had hoped to attract some new folks, but oh well. I'll try harder next time.
Now, About the Homebrewed Beer...
We sampled:
Barleywine - Chuck Nolen
Smoked Porter - Chuck Nolen
Imperial Stout - Ryan Cooper
Scottish Ale - Ryan Cooper
Russian Imperial Smoked Porter - Chuck/Ryan ( Mmmm...)
We discussed the possible implications of new beer styles and thus were invented:
Imperial Oktoberfest
English Mild Oktoberfest ( or.. Septemberfest ( - Dave Knutson)
We'll see you in June! ... Ryan

November captains log
November meeting notes for website approval and distribution.
Attendance: Andy, Ryan, Dana (big tipper), Chuck, and the triumphant return of Bruce!!!
Dave B. has received votes of no confidence and has here by relieved of any SBS duties (i.e. scribe.)
Sampled: Andy's Brown Ale/Alt Chuck's Steam Beer Bruce's Super Excellent Dunkelweizen Dana's Vanilla Cream Ale Ryan brought some North Coast Brewing Co. "Old Rasputin" Imperial Stout
Random words and comments: The October 2004 Brewfest was agreed to be much more "funner" than last years. We aspire to make "bitch beers" to convert the public from drinking swill.
Note: Andy and Dana were assigned the task of distributing SBS promo materials to Suds, and the Beloit College.
We will get a status report at the next meeting. andy

Suds O'Hanahan's 2004 Fall Brew Fest!
Suds O'Hanahan's 2004 Fall Brew Fest! Very nice to see a big turn out. Even better than last year. It was also great to see an old friend from the FCB. There were tons of home brews. We definitely over powered the "professionals". It was also awesome to talk to THE professional Fred Gray from Grays brewing in Janesville WI. He's so cool for sharing his knowledge. Also want to thank Tom from suds for including us again. It was fun to taste beers from New Glarus and from Burghoff.. I know I had a hangover. Who wants to buy a brew paddle. It's worth a whole lot more now for some reason ;) More evidence. Camera Photos just blurry enough not to get people in trouble.

Beloit Art Walk 2004
"The Art of Beer Making," at Suds O'Hanahan's. The Stateline Brewing Society has been invited to share our knowledge of homebrewing and show off our brews this Saturday, May 22nd, at the Beloit Art Walk from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Suds. This is a great opportunity for our club to outreach to the community and share our knowledge and skills about brewing with others (and of course some of our brews).
? We need your assistance in getting this event geared up with your brews. If you're a little gunshy, don't worry. Just drop your brews off at the table and the other club members will dispense to the thirsty and inquisitive patrons. As long as you fermented it, we'll take it!
? We'll start setting up at approximately 10 a.m.
? Please come out and help our club get the message out to others about the joys and fun of brewing. Hope to see you there.

ACHTUNG! Fellow Brewers!
Good News and Bad News...First the Bad News.
Our only local brew supply store in Rockford, ALL THE BREW HA, will be closing its doors forever on March 26th. This is very disappointing but also good for the owners, Mike & Mary Kay Teefey, because Mike has found a very good job opportunity outside of the area. For several years they have provided superior products and tremendous professional service to all types of brewers, and we are grateful for that.
I understand that the business is for sale to anyone is eager and forthright enough to take on such a wonderful opportunity. On behalf of the Stateline Brewing Society we salute Mike and Mary Kay for all that they have done and wish them well.
Now for the Good News!....ALL THE BREW HA is having a close-out sale where everything in the store is 10% off the sticker price. This is great! Get that beer or wine kit you've been itching to get. I was there yesterday and found everything I needed to brew a Scottish Ale this morning. Don't miss this opportunity to save some money on your brew supplies.
We will miss them dearly and wish them well in their upcoming endeavors.! andy

"Saturday, May 3, 2003 BIG BREW!
Each year on the first Saturday in May, homebrewers unite non-brewing and brewing friends and family to celebrate National Homebrew Day, joining with thousands of homebrewers from around the world in brewing the same recipes and sharing a simultaneous toast at noon Central Time. It was a perfect day. We had many guests stop by through out the day. Thanks everyone. Next year we want to have other brewers show up and brew with us. andy

Sunday, March 2nd at 9 am 20 degrees with a major wind.
What were you doing? What did we do? Lets see frozen hoses, frozen fingers, frozen face, frozen beers i.e. Rogue chocolate stout and Rouge stout, some sort of Weizenbock, a Helles from Capitol brewery, real black and tans with 12oz cans of Bass and pub draft cans of Guinness. Of course we had to shot gun a Guinness and 2 cans of Bass, each. See pics above. We did actually brew, Dave brewed a Helles I brewed a Stout. No major problems. I was 5 points below my target gravity and Dave nailed his with 1.066 Nothing else happened really exciting like last time. (Cop chasing a hit and run suspect though the neighborhood). Thanks to those that braved the cold weather with us. Hope you guys had fun also. andy

Inaugural meeting of the Stateline Brewing Society (SBS)
W O W! This is fantastic! Because of the great turnout we had at the Inaugural meeting of the Stateline Brewing Society (SBS), ALL THE BREWHA! (the Homebrew Supply Store in Rockford) has just informed the Club that they will donate a Start-Up Brew Kit (includes all the basic equipment you need to brew your first beer) at tomorrow night's meeting. If you haven't decided yet, this should clinch it for you!
But WAIT! That's not all!
Tomorrow night's topic of conversation (not formal) will be an introduction to Zymurgy (the science of fermentation) with hand-outs on brewing. I'll bring books and magazines to show what's out there in the brewing world. Please feel free to bring your own info/knowledge for conversational purposes.
Don't forget: "Bring 'em if you got 'em!" We don't care what it tastes like, as long as you brewed it.
We hope to see you tomorrow night!
