Lothlórien

Golden Galadriel, Lady of Lothlórien

Galadriel, Lady of Lothlórien, was the youngest child, and only daughter, of Finarfin of the
Noldor. Her early life was filled with the beauty of Valinor while the Two Trees still grew
there. She survived betrayal and the harsh journey at the beginning of the First Age.
In Beleriand, she went often to the halls of Thingol, (to whom she was related; Eä²·en her
mother was Thingol's niece). There she met Celeborn and fell in love [the 52nd year of the
   First Age.]

Thingol and Melian welcomed Galadriel to their hidden realm of Doriath. Eventually,
during the Third Age, Galadriel and Celeborn ruled Lothlórien together. [The name chosen
for the Golden Wood in the later part of the Third Age means "dreamflower." The word 'loth'
means "blossom, flower." The element 'lor' means "dream."] They are the grandparents
of Arwen Evenstar and, known for their serene wisdom, spiritual guides of the Fellowship
   of the Ring.

Galadriel as the Lady of the Mystic Glade, with her silver pitcher, magic water, and clairvoyant mirror may refer to
an earlier pre-Christian labyrinth, with the goddess at the centre of the sacred journey. She is still found at the centre
of the curved path designed to represent the way to the perfect place of equilibrium.

Cygnus, The Swan Constellation

This star group referred to by Aaratos as, the quickly flying swan lies between Draco and Pegasus in the starry heaven. Some observers link the swan with the stallion [the feet of Pegasus.] According to Richard Hinckley Allen, When the Romans adopted the title that we now have, our constellation became the mythical swan identified with Cycnus, the son of Mars, or of the Ligurian Sthenelus; or the brother of Phaethon, transformed at the river Padus and transported to the sky. Associated too with Leda, the friend of Jupiter and mother of Castor, Pollux, and Helena, it was classed among the Argonautic constellations, and Helenae Genitor, with other names derived from the well-known legend, was applied to it.

There may have been a common thread in Tolkien's library that linked the star group and the great Numenoreans, so grandly illustrated at the gate to their ancient world, referred to in The Lord of the Rings as The Argonauth. Peter Jackson's vision of this monument to the kings of old in The Fellowship of the Ring, is a stunning tribute to the Numenorian civilization and to Tolkien.

Allen mentions the annual dates the alpha star, Deneb, rises above New York City. They are, at sunset, on the 12th of May culminating on the 16th of September. The constellation has been used since the dawn of time by all celestial navigators because it lies so far to the north that it is visible at some hour of every clear night throughout the year.

Those deathless odalisques of heaven's harem,
The Stars, unveil; a lonely cloud is roll'd
Past by the wind, as bears an azure stream
A sleeping swan's white plumage fringed with gold.

Galadriel, A Ringbearer

At the close of the First Age c. 545-590 Morgoth is defeated in the War of Wrath. Many of the Noldor
return to the Undying Lands, but Galadriel remains in Middle-earth with Celeborn.

   c. 1590 The Three Rings of the Elves are made outside Sauron's sphere of influence.

   c. 1600 Sauron forges the One Ring to rule all rings of power in secret within the caverns of Mount Doom.

1693 The Three Rings are concealed. Galadriel receives Nenya.

29 September III 3021 The Gray Havens ROTK records Galadriel, Celeborn, and the other ringbearers as they
board a white swan ship and pass into the West.
Elrond and Gandalf carry their rings of power to the Undying Lands, closing the Age of the Rings with Galadriel.
Bilbo Baggins claims his official title of the oldest Hobbit to date. Frodo gives the Red Book to Sam.
Another interpretation of the story reports that Elrond departs to join Celebrí¡®, and in the Fourth Age, Celeborn
leaves Lothlórien to go to Rivendell, and a few of the Galadhrim remain in Lothlórien.

The Ring of Adamant is another name for Nenya, the Ring
of Water that Galadriel bore in Lothlórien. Adamant is an old
word for diamond, referring to the Ring's glinting precious
stone. This ring had the power to confer youth and beauty.
It was forged in II 1590 by Celebrimbor and the Mí²¤ain
of Eregionc, with the other two rings given to the
Elves.

The Galadhrim lived in a Golden Wood, the only mallorn forest
in Middle-earth. Haldir refers to Caras Galadhon, the City
of the Trees, as the 'Heart of Elvendom' in Peter Jackson's
Fellowhsip of the Ring, first of the three extraordinary films.
One of the most compelling symbols of Galadriel's mastery of
the water element was placed in the centre of Galadriel's Glade
in her picturesque, golden, Lothlórien wood. A magical silver
basin held reflections for the esteemed viewer.

An enchanted silvery surface would reveal things, as though looking into a mirror, from distant places
   and times.
Several titles conferred on Galadriel, such as 'Mistress of Magic' [by Faramir, The Two Towers] and 'Sorceress of the Golden Wood' [Grima Wormtongue, The Two Towers] refer to ancient titles of respect, honour, and sometimes, immortal status. Isis held the title Sorceress for millennia because she resurrected her husband, Osiris.

Galadriel and Nenya

Cate Blanchette, Galadriel, Queen of the Golden Wood
Born May 14, 1969 in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia)

Cate Blanchette has a down-to-earth, yet somehow magically charged Sol in Taurus, in a perfect trine with Jupiter in the third decan of Virgo. Jupiter is in a conjunction with Pluto and Uranus. Her Moon is in Aries, and may be in conjunction with her Venus and Chiron depending on her birth time information. It is very important to recognize the importance Tolkien placed on the arrangement of these planetary intelligences.

Corona Borealis - Taurus Decanate of Virgo

Corona Borealis is the northern crown that represents the last decanate of the northern signs of spring and summer. The sacrifices and efforts required to complete work for a good cause can make this the crown of thorns. This Taurus Decanate of Virgo ruled by Venus may be called upon to rise to a higher sense of love. Choosing one's duty can mean giving up other pursuits that might be more pleasurable. The keyword is Renunciation.

The king's ring not only marked him as the monarch, but the ring could be said to possess power in itself. Often, in the absence of the king, the ring or the ring's seal could be used to carry the full authority of the ruler. In such as way, the king might make a proclamation over all his lands, or delegate authority to his servants and subjects.

These rings of authority were made in many forms. Most often they were signet rings inscribed or marked with the symbol and name of their master on fixed seals of stone, crystal, amber or even hard gems. These could then make the mark of the king's seal with ink, or on wax or clay?

Tolkien described the Númenóreans of Gondor as, proud, peculiar, and archaic, and I think [they] are best pictured in (say) Egyptian terms. In many ways they resembled Egyptians the love of, and power to construct, the gigantic and massive. And their great interest in ancestry and in tombs. (But not of course in theology: in which respect they were Hebraic and even more puritan.)"

-David Day, TOLKIEN'S RING [Illustrated by Alan Lee]

Moses, Aaron, and we assume Miriam, all wore magic rings before, during, and after the Exodus. The staff of Moses and rod of Aaron certainly compared to the Middle-earth equivalents carried by Gandalf, and possibly the [opal?] staff wielded by Saruman. The tradition extends to engraving stones and metal bands, inscribing, writing transferring ancient symbols that were engraved on armor, swords, helmets, and embroidered into garments worn into battle. Review WETA Workshop historical documentation for the Númenóreans, Elves, and Dwarves. However we know the ancient rings, ceremonial power tools, and seals of David, Solomon, and all the descendants of the House of David were carried faithfully through the centuries, well into the time of the Roman occupations. Heraldry, alchemical, and Masonic symbols continue to be employed for jewelry, medals, and ornamentation that is popular today. see Stone for more. Iron or Mars Seal and the Sun Seal

Nerwen is Galadriel's mother-name, the name given by her mother. It means "man-maiden," in reference to Galadriel's unusual height and strength, perhaps a parallel with the Goddess Pallas Athena, personification of collective consciousness as a whole community, life in harmony, a self-sufficient and trade rich city. Her Roman name, Minerva, also refers to wisdom, weaving, and the practical olive tree [agriculture.]

The common syllable, 'ner,' appears in Minerva and Nerwen. Tolkien allocates to 'Nerwen' both 'ner,' "man" and 'wen' meaning "maiden." Perhaps this reference helped inspire Peter Jackson's version of Galadriel's temptation scene in, The Fellowship of the Ring. When the time of the three rings passed, Nenya sailed into the West with Galadriel.
